just pulling your chain Harry truth be known if I were to have a second bike it would be a two way (used to be three way) tie between the a KTM Adventure 1190 R and a Triumph Tiger Explorer, The older BMW GS's of only a couple of years ago were great but the latest version Boxer motors are getting a bit brittle for my liking not to mention the diffs grenading BMW is trying to hard on the weight saving and building to lightly
Yeah, KTM used to be more dirt biased at the expense of streetability. Now they are much nicer on the highway and still work as well in the dirt. That made it big challenge for BMW. KTM had more power and when they started competing with BMW on the asphalt BMW had to up their game. They've added water cooling to the Boxer to make more power but those diff problems have plagued them for years. No excuse for a company that prides itself on its engineering.
My mate who rides a2012 BMW GS 1200 has always been a fanatical BMW supporter had one ride on my bike .he reckoned it was to big and heavy .when we went to the pub at Byron we could keep an eye on the bikes from where we drank .he was always counting how many bikes got the most attention. I must admit he used to get pissed off more times than not
Yep you could be right but he has done 90,000 km,s in two years on his BMW and it doesn't matter what you ride and where you park it if you want a drink you want drink .he is always concerned where he parks that is why he parks it where he can keep an eye on it .
I spoke to a chap today as he was getting on his Chieftan and asked him what he thought of it. He said that it was the best bike he ever had. He used to ride BSAs and other British bikes and loved the way they handled, and said that it handled better than them.
Power isn't everything, and it is not designed to be a racer. I suspect that it has sufficient power for its purpose, is comfortable, and handles sufficiently well to get around corners at a reasonable rate of knots. As with all things, beauty is in the eye of the beerholder.
I guess I'm crazy cuz I like the looks of the R3, some HD's and the new Indians as well as a bunch of other bikes. I appreciate bikes for what they're intended to do and think if they all looked the same it'd be pretty boring out there. I wouldn't wanna go ride dirt and muddy roads on my Electra Glide, wouldn't wanna road race with an Indian and wouldn't wanna ride 2000 miles in 4 days on a KLR.
Like Erik Buell says, all motorcycles are good. 2 wheels is always better than 4.
