Another thing to understand is most motorcycle tires are all great. Few left on the market that actually are bad. For every day riding to a casual track day. Don't sweat it. Just buy the best deal on a tire, not like you have many options. They are all good but for 2 tires for under $200 a pop... Supper good deal.

I really don't like the Metzeler on the back, in the rain. There is a problem with it.

I had the Roadster before getting the 3R. Since the Touring model tires sizes are different I can't offer any solid advice. Assuming you can get these tires in the correct size I would endorse the Exedra Max on the rear (5 stars) and the Cruisetec line.

Junior the touring model that we ride are way different handling then the roadsters, we have a wide range of tires available, you can buy a tire very specific for how and where you ride. From bridgestone, to dunlop, to michelin, we can get the 180, 200 in rear and have many options for how the tire will be used. The other bikes only have 1 or 2 options at times where we the touring model has 10.

I don't care about longevity. I'll trade some money to feel safe when it rains. Hooning is not bad at all on the Metzelers. But I can't imagine the Cobras would be inferior to them in that respect.

I just want a little more stickiness in the back wheel when it rains.

those oem metz were mostly not liked and most guys do not buy them in this forum.

When I got the bike a year ago, I got new tires right off the bat. Tread looked fine but the bike was basically in storage for a long time (it had to be... 12 years old and 6,000 miles) and I did not trust the rubber. So new to Triumph ownership, I took the Rocket to the local dealer's shop and said I want new tires. Not knowing anything, I went with the parts guy's default, which was Metzeler 880s. But I have to say... they are sketchy as as all get out on wet pavement.

I would like to hear anybody's feedback on this...am I going to be happier with the Avon Cobras? In a couple thousand miles I'll be due for some new tires.

you will like the cobras, they help the touring in the handling and speed stability and ok in rain, i normally get 3 to 4k and theyre cupped and done.

What’s the specific problem? I had some Dunlop tires (don’t remember which model) on my Madura that, when it rained, would give that weird, drawbridge-grating feeling of riding on ball bearings. Man, I hated those tires.

Just no grip in the rain (outside of straight cruising). What feels to me like taking it slow and easy in a turn can result in slippage. Or just starting from a stop...slippage that I never got from any of my other bikes, and other tires on those bikes. I wonder, could it be partly operator error?. Is this just a thing you have to deal with on a Touring? You have to creep ever so slowly when starting or turning in the rain?

Oh, man, that sounds just like those Dunlops but they were suck even in a straight line! What bike did you have before this one? These things are torque monsters and it comes on early. They also don’t like any throttle on/off in turns even when riding on dry roads. I don’t mean to insult you, but you aren’t putting any sort of tire dressing/shine on your wheels, are you? I think that you will find the Max, Cruisetec, or Cobras will give you a world of difference.
