Final Drive Unit - Oil

The magnetic oil drain plug is underneath the final drive and the filler plug is on the side. They are both the same size and have the same size washers on them, but only the drain plug has a magnet in the middle.

It takes 170ml of 75W/90, when the bike is upright the oil level should be level with the filler hole.

I don't know what the oil is supposed to look like yet but the stuff I took outafter 700mile post service is very metailic silver in colour and there was a good fingertip of metail sludge on the magnet.

In the piccy below, 1 is the drain plug and 2 is the filler plug. both should be tightened with new washers to 25Nm.

I ordered a new oil filter and 6 sump plug washers earlier. Don't suppose the washers are the same size for the final drive are they?

Hi, changed engine oil about 2 weeks ago and decided to change final drive oil as it is a pretty cheap piece of mind thing and I wasn’t confident the dealer changed it during the 600 mile break in service (4500 miles now but come up on the annual service period). i used new genuine Triumph crush washers (got them from dealer in individually sealed Triumph parts bags) for fill and drain final drive plugs and torqued to 25NM per service manual. A few days after I noticed some oil on the drain plug. Wipped it up and thought maybe just some residual from the service. A few days later noticed some additional oil and checked the torque on the plugs again and they were 25NM (though now about 30NM after the check). Wiped plug clean and inspected again today and I see some oil (I’ll call is "seeping") from The fill and the drain plugs. All told maybe 2-3ml have seeped out but I can’t stand leaks and especially not on a final drive unit that hold such a small amount of oil.

I’m wondering if maybe there is an issue with the breather not allowing for heat expansion of the oil and building pressure in the final drive resulting is oil seeping out of both fill and drain plugs.
