2014 Rocket 3 Touring Trike(Motor Trike kit)
Purchsed a 2014 Triumph Rocket 3 Touring with a motor trike kit . Called three Triumph dealers near me who say thet don't work on after market trike kits. I have an engine light on and wanted to see what it is. I had to jump start the bike due to discharged battery. One Truimph service rep said I can use a diagnostic tool to check code. I cannot find a tool listed that will work with my bike. Would like any info to help me out . There are a few MC tools listed on Amazon but only list Jap bikes . Thanks

I usually carry a small cheap code reader to help out friends/people
And it will give you the simple obd ll codes
Which will most of the time let you get back home without problem. Even auto zone will read codes for free in this area. Of coarse they might not want to waste their time.
When you are trying to repair then the tune ecu is your only friend.

For any of the electronics either buy a dealer tool or TuneECU. With TuneECU you'll need a cable interface (most likely) or bluetooth enabled OBD but you can verify on their website what type interface equipment you'll need beyond downloading their software to an Android device. You'll have to purchase a license to use the software (about $28.00 depending on exchange rate) which provides up to 5 bikes (I"m basically at that limit). It's an annually renewable license (sadly they dropped lifetime licenses). Once connected to your bike's ECU you have the same diagnostic abilities as any dealer. You can also change fuel injection maps and test various components on the bike. There are a myriad of Youtube tutorials on using TuneECU. Good Luck.

literally any and nearly all "scanners" will read the codes on every OBDII port on nearly ALL things that have it. Not every scanner will do more than just give and clear codes for the most part....
Just go to an auto parts store, give them your Drivers license and they give you the code reader, scan and clear codes... go back in and get your DL back and give them the scanner.
tunecu will let you do things to the rocket and read values on things but you do not need it if you just need what codes they are! Good to have and cheap and any DIY person with a rocket needs it!

Don't know about finding a specific "tool" aka OBDII code reader that will list in its specs that it's compatible with a motorcycle, but the fact is that OBDII is already universal to all vehicles that use OBDII diagnostics. I have a 2013 R3T, before I acquired TuneECU I was using the same (cheapo) OBDII code reader that I use on my other vehicles. It's the AutoLink AL319, which I think I paid less that $30 US from Amazon a few years ago. Reads the codes fine and will allow you to reset faults, etc.
Anyway, as others have suggested, plan on getting TuneECU as it allows you to do so much more than just read codes. You can spend time on YouTube watching videos of it being used which is what I did. BTW - my R3T doesn't have ABS which I'm guessing your 2014 does have ABS. My simple AutoLink code reader won't read ABS codes, so be aware that not all simple code readers will do so. Good Luck.
ERRATA: As for local help with Triumph service good luck there too. My closest "factory approved" dealer is incompetent. Otherwise there's only one really competent Triumph servicer here within 200 miles and I haven't had to use him...so far. He owned the Triumph dealership here for years before the "BIG" money motorsports type of dealership opened and put him out of business. Sad.
