Do you remember your first ride?

Started on a Deltex Rockhopper minibike ... soon progressed onto a chrome tanked plunger framed BSA 350. Was 14 or 15 years old and life on the road had begun ... remember a copper caught me pushing the BSA up the road one evening .. asked if i'd been riding it , i lied and told him "no" The fool grabbed a big handful of headerpipe to check. The cheery red glow had only just left the headerpipe .. :D

The first "bike" (strictly speaking a moped) I ever rode didn't actually belong to me was a 1975 Honda SS50.

The first bike I owned was a 1984 Yamaha Maxim 650.

Yep, hooked up a nice brochiosaur (Dinosaur)& held on tight.

NO - too many years ago but it was off road & very under age & likely very dangerous. I can remember having a nice new Suzuki 50cc waiting for my 16th birthday so I could go on the road with it but cant remember anything about the ride. I do remember seizing it up though, Dad not pleased.:):) Thanks for that question, makes me think back. :D

Hmmm....Suzuki Rm 80 was my first dirtbike in the 70s and after several years off-road, I realized that I had no grasp of the concept of counter-steering on a brand new 1982 Honda nighthawk. I almost hit a cage. I can still picture the lady mouthing the words "OH S^*T" but I got the bike home safely. There's nothing like the school of Hard Knocks.......if you live through it!

Yamaha Chappy. Won it from the Yamaha shop in town on a 1$ raffle ticket my Dad bought for me. My first bike but not what I learned on. I actually learned on a Yamaha 90 street bike when I was around 8 years old. I had to walk it across the street to the church parking lot, step up on the curb to kick start it and climb on it because it was too tall for me. When I got tired of riding, drive back to the curb so I wouldn't fall over when I stopped.

My first ride on a motorcycle I was about 11 and went for a ride on the back of my cousins Norton 750. He ran it up to about 100. At that moment a motorcyclist was born ! Later that summer I got to ride his boys Honda 90. It was the real motorcycle, with a clutch and a 5 speed transmission. I took off without stalling and went through all the gears just like I had practiced in my mind. You couldn't have slapped that smile off my face ! :p

Great Thread!
My year was 1950. Dad was the local Indian Motocycle (correct spelling) dealer.
We were doing the race circuit as he built the motors and sponsored racers to promote his dealership. Dad built the 2 speed, Whizzer powered motor shown in my avatar for me. I can still remember wearing my miniature "Tacoma Ducks Motorcycle Club" uniform and riding around the race tracks between the heat races and mains for the entertainment of the fans. Was able to do this at the area hill climb competitions as well. I had the BEST childhood in America - I thought.
