I have read/heard stories that it's difficult to tell how the state of charge/condition is with these lithium batteries because unlike lead-acid batteries, that you would normally measure the voltage across the terminals in order to get an understanding of the condition of the battery, a lithium battery will show a higher voltage despite having a lower state of charge.
I guess it's linked with the character of these two different types of battery, where a lead-acid battery gradually runs down, while a lithium dies very suddenly.

Any suggestions on how to accurately check the condition of a lithium battery?
I'm not sure that I have the nerve to do a drop test on a lithium battery, as the cost to replace one of these babies is rather painful on the bank balance.

On any suggestions; the battery checks itself with wifi. It does a state of charge, charging test and cranking test every time you hit the button. I like how it will not allow you to hurt the battery, that safety switch has parameters for low voltage that wont allow damage, im not a lithium expert, all i know is antigravity protects your battery from death. As ive tried to kill it by not maintaining properly. The weight difference is enough for me, but the performance of this battery is also important as this forum proves rockets eat batteries, constantly click click, what could it be, i just bought a brand new battery as @mexican just found out. I replace batteries on eguipment proactively and try not to keep a battery until i get that very last start out of it. I use to buy powersport batteries ( mostly agm) for floor care equipment and have bought several bad batteries, in lead acid batteries cells charge from bottom to top, if a cell is damaged it will top load only, show good but not be worth a dime, i have zero knowledge what anti gravity does but the chip that constantly reads battery does what its supposed to. I dont do drop test on batteries but have rode a 34 mile snow mobile trail w @Sparky59 and bumbs rattling has had no effect on battery, broke me down pretty good though .

Those are the lithium ion and lithium polymer batteries that are known for that. Lithium iron phosphate batteries are very stable/safe. That's also what the Triumph Tiger has from the factory.

I need a new battery for my Ducati 1098 Streetfighter. It's been blue-printed and tuned and the stock battery just doesn't have the cranking power to cope and I've wrecked the sprag clutch.
I thought I could use a higher capacity lead acid battery and just adapt the battery tray to make it fit, but that doesn;t look like an option as there's no spare space. I've looked at lithium but they don't seem to be any smaller in physical size than lead acid.
Lithium is all a bit of a mystery to me. If I can figure out how to sort the Ducati I'll probably do the same with the Rocket as the stock battery seems to be operating at its limit and also needs an upgrade.

When it comes to tenders, my bikes are over-wintered in a secure storage container which doesn't have a power supply so I have to take the batteries off the bikes and charge them at home. With no parasitic drain going on they only need a 24 hour shift on my Optimiser tender about once a fortnight to keep them fully charged.

My Bottpower XR1 has a Super-B battery on it which is a 7.5Ah
The Buell engine needs a fair bit of umph to get it to crank over and it turns over ok but not what I would call a spirited manner.
The battery is very compact and incredibly light. Stupidly light, in fact.
I use a NOCO Genius2 charger (2Ah) to keep it topped up.

You could perhaps consider the same 7.5 Ah or if you have space for it, go for the 10Ah one.

The stock battery is 10.5 AH. I was looking at a 16 AH Yuasa GYZ16H. It's close in size but I won't be able to get it to fit. I don't understand whether you get more cranking power from the same HA with a lithium. I also don't know if there are any limitations with the bike's charging system. Got a bit more research to do I think.
