Might be helpful to know if all of these cracks happened during hot summer months. I suspect heat is a factor. Then again, it might be difficult to pin down, as it could be one of those things that happens, who knows when, and goes unnoticed for some time- unless you're a compulsive polisher....
So mine cracked when kept in the garage during -2C temperature. Not ridden just stored for the winter.
However it's a Canadian bike and survived -40C temperature in Canada without a crack.
black blanket for dash, good luck, its gonna absorb heat and i can see more issues happening. Your bike your money let us know how it goes in long run on sunny day
The bonnet isn't a bad idea other than black I guess. If it keeps the direct sunlight away then it's a win. It's not fully enclosed with the bonnet so it will still get air. How about just lay your gloves over the dash when you're in the restaurant and call it a day. Cheap remedy but in California you need to anchor it down or for some reason it grows legs and leaves before you get back.

I figured blocking the uv was responsible more than the temperatures. You'd be surprised how much cooler even a black shade over direct sun. How about one in white or pink? Most colors are available.

Getting up to 80f today will put the temp gun on it to see what actually happens. I see a lot of protection and easy to stuff in a pocket or tail bag before riding off.
