So it isn't a sealed unit after all. The clear face is just sonic welded to the rest of the plastic and it breathes through the snap fit vent. I guess that keeps the rain and road spray out. Maight juast beez da vibrrrratttion dooooing themmmmm iiinn. Stress cracking the thin plastic.

not sure about the vibration, mine went into the dealership in Sept, no cracks, i got it back last week with the crack, no one was riding it, (that i'm aware of at least)

what if it is hot and the air gets out then it gets real cold the air would shrink and then if it could not pull air in ***crack***

That's why I hate to see so much plastic being used. There is a condition called ESC, environmental stress cracking, that causes almost 20% of plastics to fail. With this unit having two different plastics welded together it is testing the condition.

i have expected for triumph to have trouble moving so fast into the electronics that they have put on these new rockets.
now with the new cluster cracking it is going to be a ***** keeping them running . it seems like it takes them 6 years before they even know they have a problem then another 4 to find a fix.
some smart guy will figure out how to put an old rocket ecu on it and that will be the fix

not sure what you mean by 'sealed' but you cant open the cluster instrument computer, only thing you can open is that vent plug, anything further you want to open then you gotta dremel cut it open

Might be helpful to know if all of these cracks happened during hot summer months. I suspect heat is a factor. Then again, it might be difficult to pin down, as it could be one of those things that happens, who knows when, and goes unnoticed for some time- unless you're a compulsive polisher....

Roger that. I mean it is not sealed from the elements with that vent plug. I see it has a tiny membrane of hygroscopic material to control water in that plug. What happens when it is saturated to the point of plugged up? Just thinking about why so many are failing, I have no reason to cut open the sonic weld. A rain/shade bonnet might be the solution.

We know that the instrument cluster is on a swivel so to speak that goes up and down but stays/locks in place most of the time at your desired angle. I have noticed even though I have the cluster in the upright position on a long ride by the time I'm done riding 'at times' the cluster has gone to the down position where it seems it would take more of the roads impacts. This may be from the vibrations or slight bumps/potholes in the road and It seems the down position would take the brunt of an impact with a pothole or heavy vibration at higher RPM's as it has no give such as slamming downward on a bigger imperfection in the roadway. Could the cracks come from the cluster vibrating to the bottom of the swivel and now taking the brunt of any impact of the road causing hairline cracks? I know some newer Gen Rockets vibrate more than others. Mine has very little vibration. Wondering if there was a way to keep the cluster in the upright position without it vibrating down (only does it once in a while but will do it on longer jaunts). Just spitballing here trying to figure these things out.

I locked mine down so it doesn't swivel. I flipped and relocated the mounting bracket to raise the TFT cluster up towards me more. That removed the swivel feature and prevents it from moving at all other than the rubber isolators for vibration.
