Carpenter 240 pack

Not that I should ever need to and probably won't again, but I idled my bike about 10km home after accelerator cable broke. Was able to get into 3rd gear easily and sometimes 4th. Up hills would drop back to 2nd if I had to and once to 1st. It was a slow trip and I was lucky in that there was room on the side of the road for a slow moving bike, but at least I got it home on my own and was able to fix it there. I love the low down torque more than I want high end hp. As I said, horses for courses.

**** I road the beastie 55 miles with half the lifter shaft stuck in my pocket. What a ***** but hey made to my trailer so I could tow the beast 1000 miles home.

Not worried.

Here is my dynoed R3 Classic with the Carpenter kit. This is with Jardine exhausts and an under the tank K&N air filter. The red lines are sans filter and the greens with it. Lost 11 hp and 12 lbs torque by keeping an air filter.Probably lost about 20 HP by keeping th Jardines instead of Carpenter's Brute pipe but I am very satisfied.
The graph speaks for itself!

I have talked with a few others that have lamented the bottom end loss via PM's with the 240 kit too, but I don’t have any experience with that kit. But warp is right, it could very well be an issue with my bike – I will report back when the Jardines get tuned, but I honestly think it’s a trade off and the bottom loss wouldn’t be quite as much with the 240 kit. Would be interesting to hear from owners of the kits that have put a few thousand miles on it, (and don’t have a personal link with carp shop) not just taking the bike out for a few miles or on a track since you tend to ride differently in that situation.

I ride with sport bikes and other modified cruisers, but if you just like to cruise roll on for the TQ but rarely take the bike to redline you really want to think hard about the mods. There are plenty of dyno charts on this site of triple K&N and all sorts of pipes. Compare those to some of the carp charts and see if low and mid range are what you want. I have not seen a dyno of a carp kit below 3.5k. It would be interesting to see.

If anyone is on the fence about the kit, I would recommend posting some questions on both sites and asking people to PM you. I found that a good number of people won’t post (especially on the other site) just because of how nasty the conversation gets about the subject.

I just picked up my bike from Carpenter yesterday and have put a few miles on her.
This is the whole deal with the pistons but with an under the tank air filter and Jardine exhausts. 208 hp and 168 lbs. torque. 219 and 186 lbs. with velocity stacks only.
The bike is SO strong from off idle to who knows!? Any concerns I had about low end torque based upon Hart's posts are totally gone! The bike has much more power throughout the rpm range including off idle.
Any concern about low end torque have been so obliterated! The bike is a torque monster at every rpm and I haven't yet developed the balls to come near full throttle. It pulls like a locomotive in any gear including 5th at lugging speeds of 70 mph or less.
I am more than satisfied with the power all over and the worries about the low end are ridiculous! You can stand it right up in a heartbeat right off idle...please!!
Maybe the cam and head work alone kill the low end but add the 11.8:1 pistons and it is a monster.
