Came off the Roadster about an hour ago...

...Thats the bad news. The good news is that I was traveling very slowly so my only real injury (despite my pride) was a "bent back thumb" and some general soreness. I have not had a chance to fully evaluate bike damage as I am at work...but I learned something valuable about cast aluminum...Dont try to bend it back!!! My clutch lever was bent so I thought I would bend it back...off she comes in my hand.

The shifter looks a little pushed in. What happened? Stupid really. I witnessed a long line of traffic backed up and stopped with construction cones everywhere and thought "Seek alternative routes" As I came up slowly to the last car in line I checked my mirrors, insured that the oncoming lanes were empty, and started my u-turn. As I am turning, the car behind me does the same movement, a u-turn just as I am doing. Well, all I saw as I was in motion, out of the corner of my eye, was a car coming at me and unfortunatley instead of just stopping I think I freaked and hit the break while making my turn.

The bike went down pretty quickly. A guy in a pickup (a rider who's bike was totalled by a drunk driver) helped me right the beast then showed how to use the screwdriver from under the seat to jerry-rig a clutch lever that worked well enough to limp back to the barn.

Someone told be once that every rider comes off at least once in their lifetime-I will be lucky if this is my one and only. -Doug
 for MacGiver in the pick up!

Ditto...highside on gravel at less than walking pace....glad to hear you are ok

If I understand, while turning left, you saw the backing cage coming at you and braked, which caused you to pitch onto the pavement.
No contact from cage?

Very sorry for you . . . fu*king inattentive cage drivers!
I just now received a call from my cousin in Edid, OK.
He was taken out by a raisin cage driver that pulled out in front of him.
Concussion and stitches in back of head. Getting out of hospital later today and will be OK.
No contact from cage oneoldbull...in fact, pretty far stretch to put any blame on her-she was not close to striking me-I just freaked when I saw a car that I didn't expect to see and thought it was coming at me-peripheral vision doesn't tell the whole story and I should have waited to react...it is a classic mistake that I was told about in my training...handlebars turned full to the left, moving very slowly, hit the breaks!

I understand and thanks for taking the time to explain further.
I do this for a living and my curiosity got the best of me.
Be well, Amigo and I hope the repairs are not to prohibitive.

Thanks everyone...am hoping that replacing the clutch lever will be reasonably painless! -Doug
