Well, I'm in trouble. On day 12 of a 10,000-mile around-the-USA ride. RIGHT BEFORE the Lincoln Tunnel, going into NYC from NJ, my Rocket III died.

Coasted into a NJ transit lot and called my dealer in California. He said it's probably related to the alarm (lights go on, all signals flash, alarm does not go on).

Apparently, the bike thought I was trying to steal it and it shut down. Most likely, a dealer will have to reset it with a nifty tool they have. It's almost 10PM here and I have no idea where the nearest dealer is located.

I had the bike towed to a local hotel and will wait until morning to start fixing it.

Anyone from NJ able to assist? PM me if you can.

I'm staying in Secaucus now but will have to stay somewhere else, near a dealer, if it can't be quickly repaired.

Thanks.

Dan

I wish I knew more dealers in that area, I know there is one in NYC, Philly and Dover Delaware. Someone else will have to help with Jersey. Sorry your bike let you down, hope it's a simple fix.

Thanks, Kelly.

Looks like Triumph Metuchen is 28 miles away.

Ducati Triumph NY is 7.5 miles away.

I will try both and hope for the best. I will have AMA tow me to one of those dealers, or I'm HOPING that they will come to me with the DataTool device and reset my alarm here.

Hey, stranger things have happened.

Watching this and can imagine (and feel) your frustration. Hope you get some assistance soon and will be on your way. Good luck.

If your 10,000 mile trip brings you to Cali, send me a PM, I'll buy you a beer for your troubles ;)

If your battery falls below 11.7 volts bike wont run . My 05 left me stranded but i was only a mile and a half from home it was a long push home .
Put a volt meter on and it read 11.7 .
All lights worked but the starter would do nothing so I called my dealer to come and pick it up and they put in a new battery and i never had a problem but then I didnt have an alarm system .
If your only 8 miles away I would think they would come to you and help you out

I was scheduled to be back in San Diego by the 27th or 28th. Looks like that won't happen, even if it's a fairly quick fix.

I am frustrated, and I thank you guys for the kind words.

I love this bike, but I've had two previous warranty repair issues (ignition, fuel thing).

Both left me stranded. This is # 3.

I've had a lot of bikes; none have given me so many problems. I just don't know.

If it was a horse I'd think about shooting it!

(I'll take you up on the beer when I'm in Antioch, though!)

That was the dealer's first guess...the battery. I just had the bike serviced and prepped for this trip and everything looked good. I will definitely test the battery first.

I did try to jump it, but it does absolutely nuthin', not even a try...no sound from the starter.

And when I turn on the ignition, the first thing that happens is the flashers all start blinking. That's what made the dealer think it was an alarm issue, but it's time for a new battery anyhow. (almost 2 years on the original.

Last thing, and who has heard of this?

The dealer asked if it was hot. Heck yes! He said that a temp module may have fried. The Rockets often start after they've cooled down, but it needs to be repalced later. No luck on that, but I found it interesting.
