UPDATE: Negotiations with Triumph USA

OK, a quick update on my negotiations with Triumph USA. :)

As you know, I ran into a couple of problems while on a 10,000-mile ride around this great country. I thought Triumph should pay for everything, since I'd meticulously maintained my bike; I received a bit of pushback from Triumph. Well, a LOT of pushback from the Metuchen folks, actually.

In short, the repairs were finally done by my local dealer in San Diego--the fine folks at Rocket Motorcycles--and all electrical issues were covered under warranty. There was nothing I could've done to prevent the breakdowns or get back on the road--they were fairly complex issues that I could not have fixed alongside the road. In the desert. 50 miles from civilization.

Anyhow, once it was determined that the bike was at fault, I'm happy to say that Triumph USA stepped up and made things right. No arguments, nothing. They just supported me by asking what it would take to put these events behinds us. I spelled out what I thought was a fair agreement and they quickly obliged.

I'm still waiting for Triumph of Metuchen to reimburse the deposit I left for warranty repairs.:kk: Once I receive that, I think I'm good.

Overall, this was a good resolution to a very ugly problem.

Thanks again to the folks on this site who pointed me in the right direction (Triumph USA customer service, etc.).

Just Sayin!!!

I have over 32,000 miles on my 08 R3T..Minor issues that has never put bike out of commission..would buy another..great cruiser with power(did I say power?) and torque for passing.Over 1800 sold in 08,only a handful of people complain here on this site...always the same people(lemons??)
I am pleased that you have encountered a happy resolution to the issue with your Rocket. My problem comes into what other people who have read your comments earlier and have decided not to purchase a Rocket based on your experience..perhaps they are not on this site anymore(having purchased another brand) and will not have the oportunity to read your now glowing testimony concerning your experience with Triumph USA.Sometimes we prematurely make statements based on that time line and later need to make corrections. The dealer in New Jersey was only protecting their interest as you were not only a stranger..but a stranger who may have little if any reason to return to pay a bill if rejected by triumph USA.I am sure they will return your deposit as again Triumph USA will instruct them to do so after their resolution.Hopefully, those of you who have hesitated to purchase a Rocket, will do so now!Triumph has always stepped up and honored their warrantys and beyond. They continue to do the upgrades on Rockets out of warranty(proof of ownership/service records/dealer backing)So if you have issues with your Rocket, give everyone sometime to work thru the problems before you bash Triumph..just sayin'..PS..Most Rockets with factory alarms have had problems electrically...install relay, seperate fuse or my suggestion...a good disc lock and save $300 and no breakdowns!

Well, I gotta comment on that...

If you've followed this thread, you'll know that I suffered some fairly painful hardships on the road. Not just the breakdowns, but the lack of support from the dealer.

Yes, Triumph USA stepped up with reimbusement, and fixed the bike per the warranty, but I am not prepared to provide a glowing recommendation by any means. I paid close to $2000 out of pocket to get me and the bike back home. Not even to mention the lost days and ruined vacation.

Folks that have asked me about Triumph quality, reliability and customer support have walked away with an earfull.

My other bike is a BMW. And that may be my ONLY bike very soon.

(If you pick up what I'm puttin' down.)

Anyone recommend an attorney in New Jersey?

Looks like Triumph Metuchen has agreed to reimburse me for the money I left as a deposit for the warranty work.

I'm glad I can put this issue behind me.

I'll keep you guys in the loop as to my progress.
