I am a fan of battery tenders I bought a new Chevy in January of 2013 and it has been on a CTEK charger since day one and is still going strong I just checked the Triumph and it is maintaining a charge of 13.8-+ a bit I am not advertising CTEK all of the tenders have worked well for me and I have no battery expertise

I used Deltran Battery Tenders for the last 16 years all the time with no ill effects. I now have a Canbus compatible Optimate 4 for my BMW. These are not just trickle chargers and are designed to not overcharge your battery. It does matter whether the battery is wet or AGM so check the specs of the tender you want to buy.

from what I understand battery tender will work on lead acid or AGM not lithium ion which needs a different one

I bought an Optima Digital 400. Pretty happy with it, actually shows the amps and has a selector for different battery types. It’s not cheap but anything that’s good is usually not cheap.
