3,000 drivers caught using mobiles in first week

You fooled me with the edit, but the debt is up around two and a half trillion under Trump, they're fooling you, honest.

I don't blame Trump for the debt. We have a do nothing Congress who is more interested in Impeachment, increased spending and has failed for decades to pass a balanced budget amendment. Our representatives are real embarrassment.

In regard to cellphone use, Massachusetts finally passed a hands free law just a few weeks back. It has taken them years to agree on the law. I wish we could get cellphone use cameras here, but the lefty's would cry invasion of privacy and it would never pass. We'll see how the new hands free law is enforced next year and if it makes any difference. The new thing here is marijuana legalization. I can say that every single time I am out riding, I get behind at least one car that is out gassing marijuana fumes. It's ridiculous.

Better find something other than Democrats or Republicans then. They might say different things, but the historical record is easily checked, they both tax and spend the same amounts, they just tax slightly different ways and spend it on slightly different things.
I'm not really talking party line stuff as really the last governor being republican doesn't really matter. The fact is he is the only one who wanted to put a stop in writting checks for money the state will not take in. Now the torch has change and we feel the burn from the new taxes and more to come.

Could always be worse, you could live in NY.

One state of Australia, N.S.W., has rolled out mobile phone detection cameras, apparently the first in the world to do so.

In the first week, over 3,000 drivers were snapped using phones illegally.

The cameras can be moved between locations, and no warning signs are posted.

Initially, drivers will receive only a warning letter. After a 3-month trial period, a fine of $300-plus will apply, AND FIVE (yes, 5!) demerit points.

About time.

Must look up the penalty for a second offence......

So how many demerit points until you loose your licence ?
Here in NZ it's 100, we get them dumped on us in lots of 20, 30, 35, 50 etc.

It used to be that if you accumulated 120 points, you lost your licence for 3 months (I think) and all points were wiped out.
Now, with that 120 (etc) points you loose your licence for 3 months, but retain the 20 still on record adding to your "next time"

In NSW, during peak seasons, they have double demerit points, so you could lose your license in one transgression. Doesn’t stop the idiots being idiots!

Lose licence at 13 points (14 for professional drivers) with double points during long weekends, school holidays, Xmas, Easter, and so on. Plus fines, of course.

Very easy to lose your licence in one hit... school zone and phone during double demerits, and you're walking. Even a passenger's seat belt. Mum cannot turn around to referee the kids in the back!

Licence suspensions/cancellations 3 months and up... all points stay on record for three years from dates acquired - whether you're suspended or not.

O.K.
Points stay on record for two years from the date of the offence, or from when you pay the fine, I'm not exactly sure of that detail.
