1st Service rippoff

Hi all , just got a gripe and wanted to confirm if im justified in being pissed off at the way the shop i bought the Roadster from treated me.

Prior to purchasing the bike the salesman told me the 1st service was free ( 1000 klm ) , much to my disgust today when i went to pick the bike up they charged me $117 , for what should of been free and was only an oil change.

I argued the point with them but they were only being assclowns so i said " **** it i'll pay for the service but im never spending another dollar here and i'll find a shop in Bris to do the servicing from now on , really pissed me off .

Last Rocket i bought new had a free service at 1000klm , http://www.triumphgoldcoast.com.au/ thats the pricks there , anyone else have to pay for a 1st service ?
 
On both of the Rockets I've had the first service labour charge has been free..i paid for the oil and filter.
But there have been a couple of occasions when I've bought a new bike and haggled for the 1st service to be thrown in with the deal
only to find they won't honour it when the time comes.
Yep feck em..don't go back there.
If your like me with limited mechanical skills then you need to find a good independent
I have a guy that worked for a main dealer before he decided to go it alone..he knows the Rocket backwards and treats my baby like she is his
 
First service free in my book, I would say. Mine was free. Kind of scary that they do not give a crap. You would think that they make more profit working on your bike than selling it to you and want to keep you happy.
 
Always got first service free I hand write it on the contract and have them sign it. On the 2014 they also shipped all my gear I had in the wing when I dropped it off to my house along with some posters some triumph shirts and cleaning supplies...
 
Never known a 1st service not to cost something. If you're not being charged for it directly you can bet you've already paid for it anyway. If the dealer's conveniently located you might be cutting off your nose to spite your face. $117 doesn't seem worth the argument unless you didn't intend going back there anyway. But I do agree; it seems really petty.
 
My 1st was $300+ ......pretty sure the dealer had just bought a new Landcruiser.....they're not cheap...
 
I did my first, myself, after the tech guy told me that the "Triumph" oil was something like $15 per quart. Knowing that "Triumph" does not manufacture oil, I figured why pay for the name. Also why pay for something that I'd have to check myself after I got it back, just to make sure it was done right.
 
As said nothing is free, in my plumbing business when they ask(and they always do) for me to do something that will only take a minute(takes longer than that to get the bloody tools out) I tell them as long as no material or labor is involved then I am your man.
 
I paid like $300 for my first service... but ever since I rebuilt the engine myself, I do all my own work, unless I don't have the tools. Self-done engine rebuilds definitely void warranties...
 
I paid for my first service, but that's hardly surprising since I service the bike at a different place than when I bought it.

It's worth paying for quality work, and since these beasts really deserve fully synthetic oil etc that costs a minor fortune the added work cost isn't going to break the bank.

But of course, if a first service was promised and reneged on, I would also go elsewhere. If just assuming it was free and it wasn't, then it gets iffy (but clearly says you were promised a free first service so to hell with that shop.)
