Yamaha rider - considering a new Rocket III - would like advice

The Rocket handles better than you would expect, for a big pig of a bike.

But that doesn't make it NOT a big pig of a bike.

If I could only have one bike and it was my sole transportation, it wouldn't be a Rocket.

It would be a shaft driven ADV bike.

But everyone has their own priorities and everything is a compromise.

I love my Rocket, but I agree. I have come to realize my wife will never do big cross country rides with me, and it's a pain stopping every 150 miles for gas, really liking my friend Dave's R1200RT he rode to Montrose on. Handles like a sport bike, 300 miles to a tank of gas, panniers and top box.

SuperTenereRidewithGoPro:

The S10 is no dirt bike but it will go easily where a R3 would be a huge chore.

I've lane split 2-up in Friday rush hour traffic in Sacramento on my R3...I know it's doable.

I've ridden through muddy wet dirt and gravel construction zones on my R3. Yes it's doable...it's just not easy nor enjoyable.

On the S10 it's a non-issue.

But if your heart is focused on an attention getting cruiser, the R3 is a great choice.

All the riders except the guy on the Tiger have R3s. This was supposed to be a smaller bike ride but Todd's Guzzi was out-of-order & waiting for parts so he brought his Rocket. Todd is an excellent rider but it is easy to see that the "big pig" is a handful compared to the rest.

The guy said his "one bike is his only transportation". So you recommend that he gets a Rocket, instead of a really versatile bike & buy a 4wd in addition??

Whoo Back there partner, I didn't recommend anything, but what I have is a R3T for the Tar ,V8 Landcruiser for the scrub, and 460 powered F100 just for the heck of it , doing my bit for global warming,
And yes, a Razor Back is a Pig, the same as a lion is a cat ,

I ride my Rocket back and forth to work everyday in rush hour traffic, splitting lanes, dodging cars, it works just as well as any other bike I've ever ridden, it just depends on what your used to

Anyone that comes to a Rocket forum looking for reasons to buy a Rocket...IMHO...has already decided he wants it & is coming to get reinforcement.

Like preaching to the choir.

I'm just being realistic.

Until I rode other bikes, I was a CRUISER ONLY kind of guy myself.

It probably is the fact that I have never had much need for anything but a road orientated motorcycle and spent most of my youth roaming around the country with a lot of other riders on exclusively road bikes ,from the mid 60s to now and it's still the same type of bike only bigger and faster! a few of my mates have gone Rogue have bought "Adventure" bikes but always check out the Rocket when ever they visit.
each to his own a bit like women like em all love only a few.:whitstling::cautious::cautious:
