Will triumph developed the roadster any further

Wonder if there's a similar conversation on a Ducati forum debating why the Diaval isn't going gangbusters ... niche markets perhaps. Truth is those that want a Harley buy a Harley, they sell themselves.

As far as I'm concerned; I don't give a crap who else is riding or selling what.

I found the Rocket, and I'll never be satisfied with anything less.

And anything else is much less.

People who buy motorcycles based on their on-board stereos, reverse gears, how much sh!t they can pack into the built in suitcases and seats resembling electric scooters for the handicapped need to be driving mini vans, anyway.

But what do I know; I'm a motorcycle rider.

As Steve59 said for roughly a $200 difference in price you get ( I am talking when compared to the Rocket Touring here) a nice looking bike, a "different" engine configuration (it is a parallel twin, not a V-twin) HP wise it is similar to my bike but the torque really separates the two along with the engine size and the LT seat is a nice touch...but I also had the original 1700 Thunderbird and it was pretty fast and you could put the "Hogslayer" pipes on it and it would have a pretty decent sound unlike the Rocket in any of it's configurations of after market exhausts.

But for $200 difference I would still go for the Rocket (or come back to it in my case...though I wouldn't mind the new Thunderbird as a second bike) the main thing I think they may have made a mistake in was keeping it's basic color black or matte black and only recently added the red and or white racing strips. The price on it was cheaper than the LT Thunderbird...but the 'bird has leather bags as normal equipment...something the Roadster doesn't have. With the non-availability of the tank pad, 140 cubic inch oil tank embellisher, pannier and fender rails (for the Touring) the accessory list is rather meager.

And last the advertising for the Rocket line has been a disaster as in no advertising that I ever saw (they should have put on the You Tube video introducing in a humorous way how it handled...wheelies and the like) so it's a wonder that with as few dealerships as there are (I am one of the fortunate ones that has a Triumph dealership in town and not 200 miles or more away) that this lack of promotion has resulted in non spectacular sales of any sort in any market because of presumed indifference of the Triumph marketing or lack of .

It is a shame...having had two...I would like to see it continue.

Well someone is going to come out with a bigger production bike sooner or later perhaps? If so then what. Would the rocket still be THE bike for us. Then again maybe bigger is not better as far as sells are concerned it would seem... Kawasaki Vulcan 2000 and it was well advertised if I recall right.

Remember the report I gave the forum a few years ago about the 2,500 cc Rocket engine being produced for testing ? Let's see what happens. I would like to see a full blown touring machine and a standard roadster out of it.

Hopefully Triumph is going to make use of it as a full blown touring machine with all the bells and whistles (ie: Goldwing/Roadking). They could even have a standard trailer hitch and offer a Triumph trailer. Competing with the Goldwing and Roadking shouldn't be to hard considering their price points now days.

My dealer told me that they sell all the Rockets they can get.....

Now that is a very good point.

When I bought my NOS 2012, they'd sold a new 2014 one a few days prior.

After that, the got in a 2014 R3T; which they still have.

And it's the only Rocket they have.

Um, they did with the Roadster. October 2009.

I'm sure I'll get roasted for this...... but a spade being called a spade... it is a small market for such a large engine. Historically, oversized motors dont make it in the long run, rune for instance, couldnt cut it, its such a small market to cater to, we own monsters, not many people can ride them, or even have the balls to do it. WE LOVE our bikes passionately, but it is a rather small market share who would attempt to ride such a monster on a daily basis. Plus, usually it takes a larger man to ride it, ANYBODY can take a harley or a thunderbird and ride. We are in a class of our own, I will enjoy it, and now maintain my machine knowing that another equal shall never follow.
