Why I bought a Rocket III

Why'd I buy a Rocket?

The test ride.
plain and simple.
I wasn't even lookin for a bike when I stopped in at the Triumph Dealer in Hattiesburg, Mississippi that day.
I was lookin for directions to a Mexican restaurant that use to be in the same bldg when I moved away.
There she set.
BIG
BLACK w/ a BLACK MOTOR
SHINY CHROME
Went over, sat on her, stood her up and felt the balance.
Salesman came over an said, "what cha use to"?
1340 I answered confidently.
He said, "This is what got me off harleys".
I looked him right in the eye and said, BULL****.
He handed me the keys and said," here take her for a spin".
That was it, it was over.
You guys know the rest of the story.
Now we got two, his and hers....

I haven't pulled the trigger yet on one but siding with a previous post, I too have a Goldwing but dont need the "comfort touring" thing all the time but dont want to downsize. I've got a number of other bikes including a Speed Triple to get in trouble with so the big bike big engine thing is my attraction. Plus I want to tick my buddy off that has a VTX 18. ;)

you'll definitely smoke his little ole 1800.
I've got two friends that ride those.
NO COMPARRISON...;)

Unless you're just dead set on the new roadster, or one nobody else has swung a leg over,
I'd look on ebay.
That's where I got our second one.
Low, Low mileage and a great price too.

Why I bought a Rocket...

My story is a little strange. My other bike is a Kawasaski Voyager XII (1200cc tourer) with over 90kmiles on it. I wanted something nice, all metal and economical (and fun) to ride around town (streets in Albuquerque,NM are notorious for poor repairs, and many potholes) because my poor Voyager rattled so bad when I rode it in town that I felt it was going to fall apart. I have a friend that owns a shop that works on classic Triumphs, BSA's and Nortons, and I hang around his shop a lot, plus, I had been wanting a Triumph ever since the 70's (when I was much younger.) So, after being unable to close a deal on a Suzuki Burgman (they wanted too much down), I headed over to my local Triumph dealer, because I heard they also sold scooters. I walked in the door, and there she was, all silver and chrome, sitting in the midsummer sunlight just begging me to try her out. The salesman sauntered over and said, "You like it?"
After I stopped drooling, I said "Yes, but I probably can't afford it" He said, "Lets run the numbers and find out if you can". I gave him my info, and he tossed me the keys, and told me, "just have her back before closing" (it was 10:30AM). I proceeded to put 174miles on her...the most impressive 'test drive' I have ever taken. I came back with a huge grin on my face, and wrote out a check for most of the down, to seal the deal.
I picked her up the next week, and have been riding her ever since. I can honestly say that she makes upin performance (it's FUN to crack the throttle and find yourself at the next light before the cages have even crossed the intersection!) what she lacks in 'utility' or 'economy'...Although a lot of my friends are surprised when I tell them that I can top 40MPG on trips...and she will be going on a lot of trips! Just call me WEIRD!
:D

That is the most impressive part of dealing with Triumph, they have no problem what-so-ever with test rides. I think the only way I got mine with zero miles is because it was in a box when I bought it. Otherwise it might have had 2000 miles on her just from "here, take it for a spin". The other dealers I went to while deciding what to buy, didn't want to let me ride anything. In fact I never got to try the Yamaha Warrior I thought I was going to buy in the first place, they flat out said NO. It was on the showroom and they said they didn't want to have to clean it again just for a test ride ... DUMB.

I agree, I think I mentioned before that I brought a demo Roc home for the weekend which was Friday evening to Tuesday morning since they are closed on Mondays.
