Why are people selling their Rockets?

Came close to buying the blacked out version of the Thunderbird. Saw a advertisement for the Rocket X and the rest is history. The last year or two have studied up on just about every make and model of new bikes. Came close a few times on buying only to back out at the last minute. The price does not justify the means. I do not require all the new and improved devices found on just about every new bike sold. All brands and makes nowadays come out with ridiculous horsepower and torque claims only to find out that what you think your buying and what is real at the back wheel is a different story. For a lot less money and greater satisfaction I plan on rebuilding the X from the ground up. No modifications to the performance. I figure 167 horse is enough for me. Will be doing a lot of cosmetic work to the bike. Pipes recoated and some powder coat needs to be redone. Sitting at 68,000 miles but figured when am done bike should see well over 100,000 miles. Next will be the 2010 Fatboy. Going to turn that one into a Sunday ride bike. Built engine nice paint job and Ape hangers. Kind of a old school Harley Lots of chrome. The Rocket will continue to be my everyday bike. Other then the transmission going out have not had any major problems with the bike. Kind of attached to it. Worth rebuilding? No and Yes. No because the bike has no value on the market. Yes because by far it has been the best bike i have ever owned. ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)
Excellent!

Having owned and ridden my 2005 Rocket 111 for 18 years I still enjoy riding it. I just purchased a 2021 Rocket 3GT. I find it superior to my old bike and like all the modern features. My main reason for going newer was the 88 pound weight reduction and how great it looks. Better braking also.

I'm on my 3rd Rocket (2 Rocket IIIs and 1 Rocket 3 GT). If this doesn't convince you, nothing will! My next bike will be a newer version of this one, if at all!

Ok, I get it: We buy toys, own them for a while and sell them again. I used to do that with the bikes I owned: Bought a shiny new ride, rode it for a year or two and then sold it again. Because a new, more shiny toy came along. The Rocket, I thought, is a different thing altogether. Certainly nor a toy. For me, it represents the pinnacle of my 35 year motorcylcle career and - approaching the age of 60 - probably is the last bike I bought. Afer all: What could possibly surpass a Rocket?

I was surprised to learn that quite a few owners of the new Rocket 3 are selling their bikes after a short while. Some just after a few weeks of ownership. Why is that?

When you buy a Rocket, you know what your are about to get yourself into, don't you? It should be a well-known fact that the bike is very heavy, very powerful and very demanding as far as the rider and his/her skills are concerned. It is not that this bike pretends to be a docile Honda CB500.

When I was waiting for my rocket 3R to arrive, I watched every single YT video from early owners. One could feel the prospective owners anticipation for the machine and the impatience in the waiting time. But after taking delivery, some owners seemed to be disappointed quickly. The reasons seemed to be excuses: The design did not appeal, the fuel consumption seemed too high. Not very credible, if you ask me. Even my T dealer tells me that he sees a pattern. He is guessing the bike is just too much for some.

I have ridden my R3r a lot this fall, a couple of longer trips of 250 to 400+ kms, mostly mountain roads and a few alpine passes. The whole time I am either (a) super chilled, (b) giggling like a lunatic or (c) going "****, yeah!" I have yet to discover a flaw. What did I miss?
I don't find the R3 to be demanding at all! I'm 81 and feel perfectly in control of the bike at all times. Now, the Boss Hoss I owned years ago...that was more than demanding!

While I know this is not everyone in this forum or every motorcyclist out there, sometimes we (the collective we) buy things that we regret. It's too big, too tall, too peppy, not peppy enough (I doubt this one), doesn't fit, doesn't feel right, doesn't come in my colour, who knows. We all know the feeling of walking in the showroom or salesfloor and seeing the Rocket 3. The calling in the loins that says "I must have you!". Well sometimes, though the desire is there it's just not a fit; and sometimes it's better to admit it than to carry on as if it wasn't the case. It's better to sell, find something that does fit rather than having a $30,000 mistake sitting in the garage as a prideful reminder. For those who bought then sold, I sure there is a plethora of reasons for such decisions. Why you would choose to broadcast it to a group of enthusiasts I don't know but that too is your choice.

What I believe (and this is me and my opinion only) is that my 2020 Rocket 3 GT is the right bike for me (for now and the foreseeable future). It may not be the right bike for everyone. And truth be told, I'm glad it's an exclusive group. Wherever I go, me and my Rocket standout because NOT everyone has one; for that I am grateful.

So I’m in traffic yesterday in a posted 45 mph zone. I’m 2 back in the #1 of 3 lanes on a standing red light. I see a Motorcycle coming up behind splitting traffic. The solo rider revs up his obnoxiously loud exhaust as he passes me. Scared the crap out of me but that’s what I get for being disconnected. He moved to first at the limit line and continued to rev his 80 HP Harley. Not to be one upped I quickly accelerated ahead on a green light splitting traffic to ride along side him for a show of my perceived dominance (hey, he started it). He bent forward and dropped a gear him #1ln and me #2 ln. I was in 3rd gear and opened full throttle. I pulled from him so fast I thought he gave up but my rearview saw him still slightly tucked and as I increased the distance he then slowed quickly and went into a left turn lane (the turn of shame) I quickly slowed and felt my man parts tingle. I embarrassed that loud ass, whiskey throttle skid lid punk. I have had a Strained relationship with my Rocket this last year. After yesterday I fell in love with my Rocket again. Pretty juvenile I know but sometimes you just gotta… :sneaky:

I've owned more bikes than I’m willing to admit, that said not selling my 23 carnival red GT with mid mounted pegs… ever! to many regrets over the year. this bike make you smile every time you throw a leg over. this is the last of the big machine breed…

Weeks back, I was waiting for the temperature to lift and the grit, salt and mud to get washed off the roads....and longer days.

Then work went a bit crazy so didn't expect to get out riding till May, but work settled a bit and springtime appeared early from out of the blue and has kept happening for weeks without a return to winter weather.....so......I've been out last weekend and put a few hundred miles on the Rocket.....

....What can I say, other than I'VE MISSED THAT FEELING of riding my Rocket. So good.

It can't be replicated with any other bike. It's unique to the Rocket.
Nuff said.
