No it's ALWAYS LIVE - it's why so many of use use the connector for trickle charging.What about the accessory socket for the DIN plug. Is that switched?.

Good god man! - if you have time - get the parts and do it properly. I have in the past done my fair share of bodging - they come back to bite you at night in the rain 100 miles from anywhere. I HATE TAPPING INTO WIRES.
