Which wire to tap for switched power?

What about the accessory socket for the DIN plug. Is that switched?.

No it's ALWAYS LIVE - it's why so many of use use the connector for trickle charging.

Good god man! - if you have time - get the parts and do it properly. I have in the past done my fair share of bodging - they come back to bite you at night in the rain 100 miles from anywhere. I HATE TAPPING INTO WIRES.

I chose the plug under the left cover because it didn't go to anything else. Just cut off the plug splice to the positive wire solder the connection and cover with shrink tubing. Make sure to slide the tubing up the wire prior to making the connection.

A standard .110" blade goes straight in.

This wire that Barbagris labelled ? Was just hanging there looking pretty. Looks like a perfect candidate for switched power.

Grizzdan can you confirm which wires are the ones to be tapping into? The red and yellow or pink and brown?

PINK/BROWN is switched live - same power feed as the coils.
Red/Yellow one goes into the ECU - leave well alone.

This connector is most likely unused everywhere EXCEPT California.

If you're going to use it - try and find a "JUNIOR POWER TIMER" or "JUNIOR TIMER" plug.

It locks in place. This is a very common connector for all sorts of sensors especially (for some reason) Volkswagen. That or you could simply shove a very common .110" blade in (I tried - it works) or ( gulp ) tap in, cut wires or otherwise modify the base loom. I have a spare JPT connector - I may give this a try too now. It's a **** sight easier to disconnect.

Hey Barbagris. This sounds very promising! I think I may actually be able to find those Junior Timer plugs... We have a car parts company down the street that has sold me relays and stuff before so I think they will be able to find those parts. Now that I know which wire to tap into I am feeling better about getting my FZ1 installed. And always I appreciate getting knowledge from the masters, I will try the connectors before attemping splicing, which I personally am not a fan of either... Thanks again to you and Grizzdan for the advice

Edit: Tried calling automotive parts providers including NAPA and they can not source the Junior Power Timer plugs. Will try calling VW/Volvo/Mercedes dealerships next.

Edit 2: Barbagris I had a little more luck with the VW dealership, they are trying to tell me the closest thing they can find is part# 357972762 ... Does that look correct to you if you search online?

I have shrink tube over them now so I can't tell what color wire to use. If you get a cheap 12volt test light check both of the wires and it shouldn't light up on either. Now turn on the key and one should light up thats the wire you want

Well I couldn't find the part I needed locally, there were too many part numbers from too many places and no one could figure out the plug. I even called NAPA and our local parts store, they have never heard of such a plug called "Junior Power Timer" so I ended up buying one on Ebay UK. We're all good to go now

Thanks Barbagris for the suggestion on the Junior Timer plug! I ordered the part from the UK and it came in yesterday.... Plug fits perfectly. Came with the terminals, boot and everything I needed so I put it together yesterday to lineup with the brown/pink wire... Tomorrow, all wiring will be complete and then I just have to wait 3 months for winter to end! YAY!
