TuneBoy is HERE!

Gary, I've done the way you're talking about. I rented a dyno for an hour and did about 12 pulls, adjusting the Tuneboy tune each time. It was fun as hell, informative, and provided me with a better tune than the original tune I had.

There is a way to hook up Tuneboy to a dyno, but I just don't know the details, which is why I pay a tuner to do it.

Only advice I can offer when doing the tuning the way you're talking about is to familiarize yourself with the fuel trim feature. Also, don't get caught up with that A/F table - just leave it alone because it's nothing more than another f-table. Also, remember that any trims taking place at 0.0 will affect the entire L-table. And one last thing that I picked up from looking at Tuneboy maps from other bikes: to reduce decel popping, make the F-values in 1.0 equivalent to the f-values in 0.0. Another way to address that decel popping is something dougl taught me - add some fuel to the 0 values of the L-tables.

When referencing the 0 values are you referring to the .0 values. Like 1.0 would be 1.3 to add fuel in the lower RPM's?

Thanks,
Gary

Humble,

The PDF came with the software . . . there was no mention of getting this number from the vendor at the time of purchase, which is not a problem other than NewR3 is on vacation till the 7th. This means I can't touch the Rocket's tune or take in this weekend to the Dyno. Bad timing that's all. I'm sure I'll get the number as soon as they get back.

I will write down the Edit Key number on my CD case when I do get it. And yes, the key is all I need . . . I have installed the program, hooked the PC to the bike, downloaded the info from the ECU and emailed it to Tuneboy (which was a moot point), and to NewR3.

As far as the Dyno is concerned . . . the TuneBoy program only shows you the numbers going into the ECU . . . the Dyno will document the results of those numbers and help determine the fine adjustments needed for optimum tune, performane and fuel efficiency.

Thanks for asking! :D

Gary, I was talking about the throttle position @ all RPMs when mentioning 1.0 & 0.0. You'll have to manually go through each cell and raise the values of the 0.0 throttle to the same as 1.0 throttle. Then start doing your fuel trims based on dyno readings.

I'm hoping the #44 tune won't be far off and I won't have to alter every setting point . . . just adjust the flat spots . . . we'll see.

I don't have a base to go from because the stock system wasn't dyno'd, so I don't know exactly what it was doing before the Jardines.

But . . . Its should be pretty strong once the mixes are correct.

TuneBoy can be hooked up with Dyno computer via Tune Link program and spare serial port with null modem cable. You then run TB as PC3 emulation! :!:

hombre

Thanks Hombre . . . hopefully the Dyno shop will know how to interface with their system. I'm sure we can figure it out . . . just hate to pay $75 an hour for someones learning curve . . . KWIM.

Wayne at Tuneboy came thru and sent me a Edit Key number . . . once I sent proof of purchase.

Loaded the key, hooked up the bike . . . downloaded the #44 program (aftermarket exhaust, no Cat).

Seems to run much better .. . . a lot smoother/quicker and the decel popping has been decreased dramatically. Don't think I'll ever get rid of all the popping, but it's much more tollerable now.

Now I just need to put 'er on a Dyno and see what she's really doing and how to fine tune the mixtures for optimum performance.

Where did you get #44 tune? The only options I could find where 20050 thru 20056. on the disc. Wound up downloading a 20050_2 which is suposed to be Rocket III with TORS, no cat , full power all gears and speedo correction. Bike runs much better but... alot more popping on decell. Last tank of fuel milage dropped to 19MPH. I'm running K&N under tank, D&Ds ,secondary throttle plates removed.

Go to Tuneboy and look under the Support menu . . . go the Triumph and under the Rocket III there is the Classic Rocket III and there you will find tunes 38-44.

I'm running the 20144 with stock filter and D and D exhaust - plenty of popping on decel. Will be downloading a tune R34ME perfected based on 20050_2 for the D and Ds - when I eventually can get a friggin day off

Gary, take a look at the sec table - you're gonna want to change that for sure if you want full power in all gears. Also Wayne's speedo correction might be something you want to consider. Alternatively, try tune 20050_2 and make changes from there

These are just suggestions without knowing your bike or setup - please do not take this as sound advice. I'm sure the knowledgable gurus will be along shortly

I may give it a shot before I go on the Dyno . . . the 44 tune works fine and it's running better than the stock 38 tune. It still pops on decel, but nothing like it did.

Thanks,
Gary
