Think I broke the code...

turns out the other leads have continuity albeit at a high resistance. faulty HT lead, waiting on delivery of new set

not really, £135 for a HT lead set from triumph. i'll try not to let the smoke of them! :Tip-Hat:

Just in case you do let some escape ......

Wow! hummm, I just ordered an "update kit" from Bike Bandit. Even though I have a 2013, and it's supposed to have all the "updates", I couldn't believe the contents of the kit, and the price. $209, and strange enough, it includes 6 spark plugs and a set of WIRES!

Thought i'd post an update on this thread for all of you who've been checking in on it everyday, yearning for some closure :Tip-Hat:

I replaced the plug leads at a cost of £135 iirc, which corrected the spark jumping to the engine prematurely like in the video. This didn't solve the misfire/idle cut out problem. I was devastated.

I noticed a squiggled hairline mark on Coil #3, going from its centre to the inside output socket (cylinder #5 lead, the dead one i replaced), apparently this is called a "track" in automotive circles. So i replaced the coil, at another cost of £1xx. This did not solve the problem. I was devastated.

The problem began suddenly after i done a compression test with coils 2 & 3 removed, #1 left in situ out of laziness (awkward to get to) but disconnected from spark plugs; so i thought maybe coil #1 was damaged. So I changed out coil #1 with coil #3 which I now know to be good.
This did not solve the problem. I was mildly devastated.

At this point i figured coil #2 was ok since it was removed for the compression test, and had no track marks. So what was left in the equation (issue 'felt' like ignition problem) was ECU and spark plugs. Original ECU died on me before, bugged map apparently, so I hoped i didnt lose a 2nd one (basically €800 to replace).

So not holding a lot of hope for the spark plugs being the problem, I replaced the whole lot, NGK iridiums that were 10k miles old came out to be replaced with new versions.
Guess what? The odd miss and idle cut out has apparently disappeared

Conclusion is, well, I dont know. Either a plug went faulty from mishandling (but im always so gentle!) during compression test, and caused the current to jump out though the coil output across thin air to the engine, or the lead (#5, being a short little ****er easy to kink) got damaged being pulled off, forcing outputted current to jump across thin air to the engine and left the plug wither and die from being in a running engine with no current in it.. i dunno.

Recommendations: any running probs you get with a petrol engine, change out the plugs. I had a queer issue with my '93 Supra back in February. Started fine and ran fine but just died a few seconds later. Even if revved up. Spark plugs all sparking but i changed them out anyway and guess what the problem disappeared.
I can only estimate that a plug or 2 was not discharging the coiled up current correctly, which was detected in the ECU somehow and it shut itself down to protect itself.

/end transmission

Had the same type of problem with a mates R3, he had a faulty coil [intermitent] and when it faulted the only way to get it working was to clear the error code with TuneBoy???

spark plugs are probably one of the bigger overlooked culprits..Wayne Tripp would always say when you bring your bike to him for a dyno tune, make sure it has fresh plugs..glad ya got it sussed as the Brits would say..

Yeah he's probably right
My carpenter stuff and custom exhaust only yielded 207whp which was lower than expected e.g. ~220whp; this was 2 months before my misfire/idle cutout issue began. And we were confounded as to why I was 20hp down on expected.
perhaps another trip to dyno is in order..?

Yeah intermittent problems are a pain to fix! When my GPS goes off in one I have to clear the code in TB too to get rid of the check engine light
