A road trip is never a bad idea. I have taken road trips on much smaller bikes and one of the best road tripping bikes I ever had was a '75 850 Norton. That thing took me everywhere!

An old friend of mine used to ride a Norton everywhere. Coming back to Chicago from his family farm in northern Wisconsin he stopped at an intersection and the Norton died. A young lady in a convertible looked over and asked 'out of juice?' He replied, 'if you'd been between my legs as long as this thing has you'd be out of juice too'.

40+ years ago I used to ride a Yamaha XS650. Took several trips, one two-up, and never thought twice about it. An R3 would have seemed like a Goldwing.
