There are a number of upgrades one should do with the clutch and lifter assembly when in there in a 2006. Post a few more pics of all the parts e.g. lifter shaft in front cover. Looking at your pic that is the older smaller button lifter piece / pull rod. Newer one has bigger head and less likely to break off.
The spring tower bolts could be replaced with 50mm ong ones too to strengthen the towers in the inner hub.
The problem right now sounds like the lifter shaft mightn be position correctly after changing the cable.
another way to break stuck clutch loose to rule that out is to put it into 3rd (engine not running), and with clutch lever pulled in, push bike forward and back. If the plates are indeed stuck then there will be very little movement possible but a strong shove with lever pulled when in 3rd or above will break it loose again.
