The #1 reason why the r3t does not sell well

she DEFINITELY needs a 6th gear.
No question about that.
A "real" Touring model with all the bells and whistles
would drag alot of the honda gold wingers and electra gliders to Triumph.
Probably even snag some of them ugly victory vision guys,
but then maybe not, they're more of a ufo rider than a Rocket guy.
But without advertising, Triumph will keep the fan base it has,
but acquire very few new riders.

Touring Performance

I'm a new owner of an 08' R3T. I upgraded from my 05' America and have really enjoyed the riding difference around town and especially on the highway. I never considered anything else because the Rocket was so unique. I'm looking for some advice on stock windscreen buffett issues and pipe upgrades. I've been considereing the TOR's with the Triumph tune vs. the D&D upgrade kit. I'm basically just looking for a modest performance boost with better sound vs cost.

There is a taller windshield available from Triumph as well as a couple of aftermarket options. A taller shield will likely eliminate your problem. The TORS and D&Ds both require a TORS tune and both offer similar performance gains.

I don't really need a sixth gear. What I would like is for some company make after market gear sets for the bevel box. Slightly higher gearing would do it for me. I would like it to run about 2500 rpm at 75 mph. With all the torque this engine produces I doubt you would even notice that change during acceleration.

I have a 2010 R3T, done 12000 miles in the first year, never had an reliability issues, but it definitely feels like there should be one more gear, if they came out with a 6 speed, I would trade/upgrade for sure. Don't miss the gizmos and full fairing at all.

It is a wonder I didn't bend my shift lever before I got a GI Pro. I was continually looking for 6th.

Re: why R3T doesn't sell well

I have to agree with everything said. I am a long-distance rider, but don't like riding wings. I like big cruisers and the R3T allowed me to quit whining about my Valkyrie. I put 10K miles on the R3T in the fist 3 months. Trips up/down the west coast, Route 66, bryce/zion/grand canyon, and a pacific northwest loop.

Let's talk price first.I have it better than most, since the '11 R3T came with all the accessories a guy could ever want, for free. The R3T is the most bang for your buck out there. Nothing even comes close to giving us that much bike for under $17K (usd). The only things I've added are TOR pipes, a real horn, and PIAA lights. (oh, and some Kuryaken turn signal mirrors I regret doing)

Performance/comfort: Amen! where is our 6th gear! This bike is a joy at 65mph, but at 90 it vibrates and the engine sounds like a 4cyl rice burner. Still, if I stick to the back roads, with big sweeping turns, it's perfect. My main gripe is that cheesy/cheap-looking plastic radiator cowl. I'd gladly carry the extra few pounds around to have actual metal in there.

Had some issues, for sure. quality control seems to be a weakness of UK manufacturers. But still, less time in the shop than my Road King (hated that lopsided underpowered pig).
