the number of cylinders only becomes applicable if the signal is coming from a distributor (remember those? )

With a coil per cylinder, it does not matter whether you have 1 or 12 cylinders (or three of course!) - you just get one pulse every other revolution off that signal.
i.e. as far as your R3 tach application is concerned, you treat it like a single cylinder NOT a three.

Note that the mini one posted by Corey is a dirt bike type one i.e. single cylinder 4-stroke application

Did you mean specific to the mini-tach M/C mounting I mentioned?
If you asked just whether it will fit rocket, you will likely get negative response I would expect (or it would be listed in their model applications already) - you might have to give them dimensional info?

I note that Barons sells just a billet housing for 67mm gauges - but it's not much less than complete with instrument!
That said, imagine their gauges are pretty low cost items and their main business appears to be the machined parts

Depending on what voltage it's being sent from the sender, would be very simple to scale for battery volts

(at a guess I would say simply 1V = 10 psi; so simply need a 1/10th divider- a couple of resistors - to get it to read battery volts.)

Although it does not say it, the dimensional info appears to be same as the HD analog one, so should fit in that bullet pod? (again, would need to confirm with KOSO)

I use that last one below and between the stock dials. For something else.
It has digits and sweep dial - I quickly used the digits over the sweep.
Wont fit in a shell as it's 48mm not usual 55mm - KOSO use 55 and NOT 52 - be warned.

One option I've not mentioned - I use one and they're VERY VERY good for ease of eye-brain recognition is the SHIFT-i
Like my little KOSO it's coupled to a GPS speed sensor rather than the coils - but I'm odd like that.

It has 7 different colour LEDS - very configurable - I use mine as "Your licence is "OK, AT RISK, GONE" indicator.

It auto dims if you're constant cruising (configurable) but will then come bright to improve visibility.
REALLY it's meant to be a shift light - but - imo would be very good.

Innards may be Nissin - But the callipers say Triumph so it's perfectly logical that the M/C reservoir/Switch cluster is maybe bespoke.
Cost is easily justified.
 

Interesting little item....would it indicate rpm pretty accurately if set properly and tapped off from the primary/low side of one of the coils on an R3T?

the graphic on the item listing shows the wrong dimensional info vs what is in the install guide
So, correct, no it won't fit that 55mm pod

barbagris - in their install instructions (pretty much all I looked at) say to connect the tach sense wire to the coil POSITIVE - do they really mean that or is that a mistake? The negative would be more logical you would expect ....

The manuals are unfortunately written in Chinglish

Please make sure that the ignition coil positive electrode before connecting the RPM sensor wiring!

I have the instructions stowed away - will look them out after my weekly "Guzzi Shop" run.
I think they really mean - make sure the Plus and Minus are connected before pissing about with the sensor wire. But that's just sensible.
iirc the Koso will sense of EITHER pole and also via induction. Later. Actually I have some other questions for you

Forums are wonderful things - but MOST "experts" on forums use "here-say", "opinion" and often as not "popular myth".
I don't have my KOSO fitted as a rev Counter on the R3 so I don't "know".
But again I have the instructions somewhere.
 
Alzheimer attack - Just rediscovered that the Shift has a VOLTMETER function and OVER VOLTAGE WARNING built in.

Ken - Koso instructions says red to 12V - Black to earth - white either inductive-wrap or POSITIVE terminal of coil.
BUT later there is a way to set it to negative impulse so then I'd assume negative terminal.
Settings for 2C/4C - - no pistons but they explain how the ign/rev thing is.
Koso also do a similar tacho in 55mm with temp gauges in - but the RPM digits are smaller than the basic 48mm.
I did toy with changing instruments over to these. I think know I'd err more towards a KOSO RX2N (white 20K RPM dial funcioning as GPS 200kmh speedo) with SHIFT-I as rev counter.



I don't have a scanner - but can do so at work if you're interested.
