2011 R3T
I've just spent a couple of days in the garage with "Bertha".

New oil, coolant, brake pads, plugs, brake fluid and oil/air/fuel filters changed.

Valves checked and all in spec thankfully.

Having done it I am positively salivating at the weather improving and getting some riding done. usually about this time of year I start planning trips and watching long way down and round for inspiration!

What are you guys doing to get ready for another years riding?

I'm hoping to get to ride down to visit my Dad in Oklahoma City. It's a 650-690 mile trip depending on the route I take. Never been on the bike that long so I'm 'practicing' Took a 260 mile trip the other day and it wasn't too bad, I think I'll be fine if I stop every 150 miles and walk around a bit. I dot think I need a Throttle Boss (too cheap for a break away and I'm not mechanically inclined enough to futz around and make it work) and some foot rests to mount on my highway bars though. Considering the beaded seat that Rocket Science(?) uses.

I've also got one of those Whistler Helmet mounted tail light setups that I need to get put on there.

Actually started riding here in Germany a couple weeks ago (but mostly commute). Ripping the trans off this weekend for the update kit installs, sending bits off to paint, new tires (again) and planning my France and Spain trip. Gotta get as much more of Europe as I can in before I leave this summer. If all goes well, the bike will be back together by Tuesday for a business trip down into Bavaria!

I love riding in Germany. The good lady and I rode from Glasgow down to Titisee in the black forest for summer holidays last year. South of Germany is stunning

You should check this out. Simple-cheap-functional-works like a charm to reduce throttle spring pressure over the long haul!

@ScottishR3T I've ridden in 17 countries so far here in Europe. They all have some beautiful rides. But Km for Km I don't think I'd ever have to leave Germany for the best ones. Schwarzwald is so large with so many good roads and is absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately I find it even colder than anywhere in the alps! If you haven't yet, and get back to Germany, hit the Hartz region as well! It's another biker's dream area and the roads are impeccable!

Summer is Coming, okay I am expecting the BigYin to jump in with the punch line. Summer in Scotland is like saying Snow in Florida.;) Thanks to pig faced Thatcher I enjoy riding 365 days a year.

I'm an optimistic Scot! Think that every summer is going to be excellent until reality sets in and I realise most rides I'll still get wet at some point but be happy enough that I'm warm and wet rather than cold!

@cardinal93 I'll be back in Germany at some point but not for a few years. I've ridden in a lot of European countries but it's my firm favourite.

I have an agreement with the good lady. We do holidays year about. Bike holiday one year followed by "normal" beach holiday the next, then repeat. So its a beach holiday this year!

I've started planning 2016's trip down through Italy into Sicily already

I use a simple $5 cramp buster.
That looks like another good cheap alternative. If you need to emergency brake, I'm assuming the brake lever action forces the lock up as it slides back?
