Come on guys....Just try to be nice to the newer guys...

I know that PMS kicks in as we get older......But ****.........

A quick search found these 2 threads and a few others. ;)
First one is perhaps the most helpful.

As a newbie

I realize this is probably an old/dead thread but I bumped into it and checked it out because I AM a newbie (riding since 2010, rocket owner since November) and I'm looking to do some "simple" air and exhaust mods. Searches on Google and these forums return multitudes of conflicting information, opinion differences, ego battles and "pro talk" that isn't helpful to a pathetic novice.

In addition, the VERY detailed and helpful walk-through posts are generally so specific that they don't apply to my project... "Check out this mod I did to the under-seat air filter box on my Carpenterized R3 with XXXX model K&N filters that got me an extra 3 HP on the strip after my XXXXX custom fuel remap" is super cool to read and I love seeing them because I learn a lot, but I don't have a silverback and I'm not running most of the mods listed, so I'm not sure that this particular mod would do ANYTHING for me, and may even cause power loss or even damage to the engine/bike without an expert hand guiding an unknown number of additional changes to balance the mod.

All I can say is that, as a TOTAL newbie and as somebody shopping for my first project, I heavily rely on friendly veterans and I appreciate when I get really helpful and detailed responses to my silly/ridiculous/simple questions. It cuts through the bullcrap and allows me to get info on MY specific application and project goals. We're not folding paper airplanes here, we're modifying 15-20 thousand dollar motorcycles with lots-o moving parts and fiddly bits that need to be all spinning and whirring together in a harmonious way or we end up with big, 800 lb lawn ornaments and broken hearts.

SO from a newbie (and a super newbie here on this forum) I deeply appreciate straight answers to my stupid questions. :)

(See I didn't even notice this is a super new thread, I thought it might be old! NEWBIE!)

Thank You.....Mr Canberra

That was what I needed to know....Plus I see how you did that....and that will help me find things out on my own.

Since I am fairly new here and excited about my new rocket....ect, ect, ect,

Again thank you for your help

Your new friend

Joey Fletcher

Now that was not that hard.....I am done:D

I have to agree with norseman...while not new to bikes in general I am very new to the R3 and any bike that can't be tuned with a screwdriver. I asked a newby question a while back so that someone more knowledgeable than myself would positively identify the secondary butterflies (even though I had already removed them) to satisfy that tiny voice in the back of my head and make absolutely sure that I hadn't done something to my moderately expensive fat bottomed girl that was gonna turn her into a piece of junk. If I have the answer to ANYONE's question I will gladly give it out.

To those of you who take the time and effort to answer our dumba$$ newby questions (you know who you are) and thereby initiate us into the Rocket Tribe...my thanks and admiration gentlemen.

Joey stand bike up start engine let run 1 or 2 minutes to make sure the oil in th esump has pumped back up to the tank. then shut bike off. pull dip stick clean with rag and stick it back in alll the way. Check to see if oil is in between the marks on the dipstick.
Have a great day.

I'm not talking about positively identifying the secondary butterflies...that is not a newbie question. I am talking about, "How much does the bike weigh, how many CCs is it and where do I put the oil?"

Those types of questions.

Hmmm Does some body need some ice cream.

Hmmm Does some body need some ice cream.

Now THAT is a question I will answer: YES! Two scoops, please.:D

Look, I undserstand it makes you feel important to jump in and quickly answer these questions that have already been answered a dozen times. Fine. Go ahead and answer all of the silly questions if it makes you feel important.

Wow, that guy must really know a lot! He told that new guy how to check the air pressure. Twice!

Go ahead, knock yourself out.

I'll be riding (and eating ice cream).
