hey everyone I'm new to the world of motorcycles and had a few questions. Naturally this is the first place I turned. Let's see...I am thinking about buying a big triumph...or maybe a Harley or a goldwing. Although those 3-wheeled spyders look cool, too! How much gas do they use? Harley's I mean. Also, are goldwings heavy? They sure look heavy. And do i need a license to drive one? I heard somehere that if a motorcycle is as big as a small car you don't need a license. That would be great. Also, can you tell me the difference between a honda rebel and a triumph? I may start with that first. Did i already ask how much triumphs and harleys costs? How much? Where do I buy insurance for it or is it even necessary? Last thing. How much does the 10, 20, and 30k mile services cost and can I do it myself? I don't own any tools or mechanical knowledge. Thanks. Gotta run...

Well, Cletus, welcome to the site...and the interweb in general. Those are all good questions and I'll do my best to search for the answers so you don't have to.

Wait just a few minutes while I spend time researching that for you...that I would otherwise spend riding my R3. You see, it's a common misperception that we enjoy "riding" our big motorbikes. What makes us feel smart is answering the same old questions over and over and over again for folks that are too lazy or uninterested in doing a little legwork.

Yeah, we appear super smart when we can tell a potential R3 owner how many CCs a Rocket III has. And we are delighted to actually explain what a "CC" is. I mean, sure, we could just ignore the silly, redundant questions...but how would we show off how brilliant we are?

No, we enjoy these questions and hope you are happy with whatever moped you end up buying. Thanks for your questions!

Thanks for your time Dan, I did not mean to send you broke and did not know you were so far from the Post Office. I would only expect you to have mailed it at your convenience, we have post offices on every second corner so not a problem here. When Sending money by PayPal they do not mention any fee's payable by you. Selling stuff comes with inherent problems that are not always obvious. Sorry for your troubles and thanks for your time.

Regards Gothlander.

Not a problem, my friend.

By the way...when me and the family (2 wives, 8 kids) visit that part of the world, would you mind putting us up for a week or six?

It's possible to search all content on this site, but the Rocket3 Tech section was recently setup to help support the contributions of those who wish to make it easier on new owners.

It's been a while (5.5 years) since I joined this site but I remember very well what it was like to be a newbie to the R3. I was also rather new to forums in general. So I asked a lot of dumb questions. Didn't use the search like I should have. yada...yada.

A lot of good people here looked past all of that and helped and guided me along the way. I can never fully repay them for their patience.

I see it as a purpose, an obligation, to help as many newbies or prospective owners as I can. In some way it pays back those that helped me so many years ago. I don't know a lot but I feel like I should help where I can.

Just like I remind the darkside detractors that we all have different riding styles, I remind some as well that we don't have the same backgrounds, computer experiences, etc. Be nice to those that ask questions because you may need to ask one some day.

Does anyone think it's funny how new or prospective R3 owners will get on the site and ask questions without doing a quick search? Has no one ever heard of google, the interweb or a "search" button?

I'm all about dishing out advice, but c'mon, just do a little bit. Make an effort, guys! If you can't figure out if anyone has ever used Amsoil in their R3, well, maybe a Honda Rebel is more your style.

I'll let this one go, but how many time will we hear:

1. What is the best tire?

Despite all the questions have we finally come to a conclusion....

That's a good point and I hope it is used.

But those that are too lazy to use the search function might not care to use the "newcomers" area.

I'm crossing my fingers...:)
