Ahhh the old day's and 2 strokes. Yes the only true way to read a plug is to do a wide open throttle run, shut the engine down while at speed, and after you stop, then check the plugs. No idling etc. I had a screaming Yamaha 350 2 stroke, that would scare the bejesus out of you. Wound up burning a nice little hole through one piston, when I mistakenly ran out of gas while doing a test run.
