Something Failed, let’s find it! Transmission Analysis.

Naive question, wouldn’t you need the ecu to identify the 6th gear or could you just use the map for 5th?

The pioneer will of course eat most of the development cost, but, I expect all in, it would be under $1k to add 6th for the Robinson parts/labor part.

well... seems to me it would be a reasonable fee for that kind of work, considering that (1) back cutting ... (2) # 4 gear replaced... (3)one circlip... cost me $ 650

Tons of space for another gear, it's in Robinson's own words "A six speed transmission with the 6th gear missing".

6th output side is already there, its the 2nd gear dog ring, but the Rocket has not teeth on it... 6th input has space for days to be put in between 2nd input and the 3/4input dog ring gear hybrid crap thingy. No need for more forks or a 2nd drum or anything, the moving part is already in the design. Also need to add dogs on the 3/4 input gear on the new 6th gear side to engage the 6th input gear.

Here is a edited image of an R3 trans, red parts would be added.

Hayabusa trans below, functionally, they operate identically.

Oh look I conceptually designed a superior transmission with no moving gears, only moving dog rings, and 6 speeds, 3 shift forks, 3 dog rings, 2 notches in each path of the shift drum. All gears on the dog ring side are floating on the shaft so they spin freely when not engaged, all gears on the other shaft are splined so spin with the shaft.

OH LOOK: You don't need snap rings with this design, you can use shouldered spacers between the shouldered bushes.

Do I win a prize? Why in the hell hasn't this been implemented yet? I cannot possibly be the first person to come up with it....

I also inquired about using spiralocks instead of snap rings, he said the snap rings he upgrades to on the rocket are beefy as hell and the spiralocks wont offer anything the bigger snap rings aren't already capable of. They're not standard snap rings, they're bigger and purpose built for high hp (600+) drag applications.

Does not use Busa gears. Rocket gears are the biggest gears around for bikes, from what I'm told, bigger
that busa, zx14, etc.

5th is already an overdrive. 0.96:1 ratio.

Theoretically I would target something right around 0.8:1 which puts 80 mph right at 2500 RPM using a 240/55 tire.

O.K. that is what many have been looking for for a long time, a higher top gear for lower cruising RPM.
Can it be done ? Realistically ?

Yes, if you can convince a capable and skilled trans shop to take the work on, there is literally no reason it can't be done.

Needs to be a shop proficient working with 9310 steel.
