Smartphone mount options

I feel like a dinosaur. The idea of riding down the road and texting or talking to someone on a phone would really be distracting not to mention that it would disturb the hell out of me. If I am traveling I usually use a map (paper kind) no batteries required. The folks where I work got me a flip phone but most of the time the battery is dead so that was kind of pointless. ( I never think about charging it because I just do not use it) Observing people and their habits with cell phones still amazes the hell out of me. When I am on my bike It is (my time) not some numb nuts that wishes to talk about something I really more than likely do not care about anyways. Nothing beats a couple of hours riding time and all you have talking to you is the motor. :D:D:D:D:D:D

All good @sonny, for a little day trip.
If you're gone for two or six weeks on a ride, one needs to check in now and then.
Only a very few know I have my cell phone with me on trips as I generally do not carry it unless I'm working.

I clearly remember when you & I said the same about the computer replacing the typewriter.

You PEGGED me on that brother! I be the dinosaur Sonny was revering!
But honestly, I agree with all of you guys on the needs that can be filled with technology, especially GPS.
My biggest rant was my point re: people at the gym, the movie theater, at a restaurant that can't even have a meal & a conversation, ect - It's like some folks just can't put it down.
A lot of times it's such a distraction.
We shouldn't rant about how dangerous it is out on the roads with people in cages driving and texting or talking on the phones, running over bikers while the biker is looking down at his strap on cell phone on the handlebars :whitstling: Hmmm.
I will absolutely carry my phone with me in my pocket in case of emergency, need directions, ect. But I will pull the h<ll over & stop to use it.
But hey, to each his own :D

Joe,
In my experience of several years comparison on many long trips that the Garmin is superior to cell apps.
The route choices sometimes vary quite a bit so, my bro & I have ran tests where he followed his cell & I my Garmin.
I usually arrive first (our rule is no more than 10 over) and my routs are usually more scenic. There is more but, I won't bore you with it.
I have used both in my vehicle business travels and prefer the Garmin.
Both GPS and telephone are important. Try both at the same time and you shall do each half-ass!
JMHO, but I could be correct!

@1olbull I don't recall you going any LESS than 10 over last time you were down this way...

Very true; however I was only referring to the way brother Dan & I do my Garmin v. his cell phone nav tests.
I surely did enjoy meeting and riding with you, Abe!
ANY TIME you've a hankering to ride with an OLD man just let me know!

Remember, I'm not mounting my smartphone for calling/texting or even using the GPS. I want it mounted where visable so I can monitor TuneECU while riding. I think some of you old dudes are reading way too much into this.

Settling on Ram Mounts but not sure exactly where/how to mount. I noticed there are two bolts just under the gauge pods which might make a good mounting point if I can find a mounting base that would work. Otherwise I think a round bar mount system might be best.

If you have a big phone, you'll want to go near to the riser for, at least on the R3T, a full lock turn will cause the phone mount to hit the tank, if it's too far out. If you turn the phone sideways, and TuneECU does work better that way, you have more room for placement. I have a Garmin Zumo and a phone mount too. I sometimes run Waze, to get the points, but my intercom is linked to the phone. As I am on call 24/7, I need to be able to take a call while riding. It's a totally hands free affair though.

I am curious just exactly how you are doing this monitoring of Tune ECU.
What is performing the bluetooth function?
