small screens and autobahns

Richard ,tc you have only got 6 month ,14hours and 22 minutes until the rdu

Yes we do mate .. yes we do. Having a meet-up with the WA Owners in a few weeks , be in their ears about getting the bikes shipped to Adelaide and riding the Great Ocean Road to RDU ;)

oops,,no real offence intended chaps, just pulling his leg ! If i was in a position to do long distance touring then i would buy the Honda F6B , all the wind protection you need and it looks pretty **** good. But the new price of 24000 euros is on the wrong side of stupid.

dan i know what you're smoking dude. i have the sportscreen on and although it looks **** good and provides a nice little bit of wind protection it could do with more.

i plan on hitting the autobahns (down to the nurburgring on my way to monaco & st tropez :D) this summer and the high speed wind resistance is what has me apprehensive. then again i dont plan on sitting on the bahns for a few hours at 120mph.
just wanna hit one for a proper but quick blast and then back to the twistier german country roads.

i really like this style sports screen, and i wonder what its like in comparison to the standard triumph sports/fly screen for wind protection. probably not a noticeable difference
i think only dude on here i know has one is perdurabo.

anyway if someone wants too be proper streamlined then the rocket is not the bike for them, imo. handlebars too wide and riding position too upright. just something to live with

 So you've never actually seen an F6B then? ;)

sure i have seen it , i was allowed to sit on it as well :sneaky: yeah the oem screen is low but aftermarket screens address that issue. Apart from the price i think it is a fine looking machine and no doubt it will sustain Hondas reliabiltiy reputation. However, in the meantime im having fun on the Rocket , my long haired General wants to go touring in the future , she rides the road king at speeds that make the Rocket feel uncomfortable, when the time presents itself (F6B has depreciated in price) the Honda may prove irresistible . But for now i am happy !

R-111-R , its a jap firm that makes those screens i think, it looks good but i dont think it will make a real difference over the trumpet screen. Be careful on the ring , ring tourists in buses and SUVs are a nightmare :cautious::cautious::cautious: :)

Helmets make a BIG difference. I have a cheapee Scorpion EXO full face, that actually causes less turbulence on my head and neck, than riding with no helmet at all. However, it is too round for me, and presses against my forehead too much. Soooo, I bought a, to me, high dollar Shoei Quest full face. Fits much better, but tends to "lift" at anything over 70/80, if you don't cinch it down real tight. When I first bought my Hardley, back in 06, I bought one of those German style novelty helmets. First ride, I thought the thing was going to choke me to death before I could get back home, trying to lift my head off of my body! Windshields are nice for cages, but not for me on 2 wheels. Tried a windshield on my Hardley, but it seems to act like a sail on windy days. EVERY time I go anywhere, (on Rocket) I wind up cruising at 80/90/100 mph no problem. But only for 50/60 miles. My old shriveled up arms do get sore, but hey, it's a motorcycle, not a car. Just tuck in, and hold on, and twist that right grip! Now if I could find a way to stop my arms from flapping like chicken wings when I ride with a short sleeve shirt! Old age sucks! Ha!

:laugh::laugh:had me in stitches, 10 outa ten for still pushing it,many sheeple trapped in front on the TV nowadays when the could be blowing the cobwebs away, chickenwings lol brilliant :):)

Long distance function, is more important to me than style. I never had a fly catcher but I had all the Triumph screens (sport, touring, oversized clearview) at one time or another, on my first R3...

I also had a little sport shield that was a universal fit clamp-on handlebars that actually did a decent job, once you got it positioned properly...

Like the screen and the luggage can you provide details please?

See post #10 for links for windshield details.

The topcase is a Givi E55...mounted on an extended wompous rack.
The sidecases are Hardstreet clasics with a modified mounting & internally reinforced with aluminum.

I have mixed reviews for the Hardsgtreet bags...they are roomy & convenient but the original Hardstreet buckets started to develop cracks around mounting points...the company replaced the buckets but it was bound to recur, since no change was made in design. So I added some 1/4" X 5" alum. plates. I have used the reinforced bags for an entire riding season now & so far they are holding up.
