small screens and autobahns

When we were in Germany in 2007, we did a little autobahn. We were 2-up & fully loaded on a v strom 650. GPS indicated 115mph top speed. We were moving quite a bit faster than 90% of the other traffic. The 10% going faster...was going MUCH faster...like 160+...

It was very strange, traffic moving fine, then suddenly, an instant traffic jam...what happened? An accident? No, just a truck pulling out to pass another truck...

I' ve done I-10 in Texas...90mph speed limit....easily cruise @ 100.

Then there is I-80, crossing salt flats of Utah...speed limit 85mph but I've done it @ 110--115 & passed cops that didn't bother me...After going a long time @ 100 + it feels like you could get off and walk when you slow back down to 75-80.

i think i have found the compromise, just purchased a Caberg helmet without a chin bar but the visor covers my visage , the difference is huge, doubly pleased as it was in a sale 199 euro reduced to 79, what a winner. On the side is a removable cover and my mini ipod fits inside it , what a treat , no more annoyance routing a headphone cable through layers of clothing

I think Triumph got it nearly perfect for someone of my height with the sports screen. Now able to do around 20-30 mph more than without the screen. Agree that helmet design may help, I have the shoei GTAir which apparently was designed with wind tunnel assistance. The only complaint is that wearing my Frank Thomas summer leather and mesh jacket in this fresh spring is my shoulders get cold because that's where the wind is deflected to. That won't be a problem once the spring turns to summer ;)
