Thanks Turbo, that makes sense to torque the shaft nuts, in sequence, before torquing the axle. It looks like rust but I think it is just the factory dry lube, but i will clean it up before applying the moly 60.
Yeh it's dried up lube by the look of it. You're fortunate it's worn so well considering your mileage. Mine was chewed up pretty bad at 96,000klms. New diff here in Australia was $2,000. Was a bit of a sh!tfight to get it replaced under warranty .. they reckoned the mileage was too high.
