The stock seat and the gel seat for me were horrible. Could simply be that my size ( 6'7" and 300) doesn't meet the design demographics. Trouble is, you don't know if it's for you till you ride for an hour or so.

Having looked at most of the comments on the gel seat, I'd draw the conclusion that in the main, if the stock seat is uncomfortable for you after 30 minutes, the gel doesn't seem to give much of an advantage.

I installed the Triumph Solo seat and Adjustable Backrest on my R3T. As I suspected, it was much too soft. I was feeling it in the rear after 125 miles. After about 250, it was obvious that this isn't going to work.

Good looking seat, though.

If any of you are thinking to yourselves, "Why didn't he just buy the Corbin?" Well, I should've but I'm really trying to stick with Triumph parts. The loyalty to their accessories has just about ended...

I had a local guy reupholster all four pieces (solo & backrest, pillion & backrest); they look and feel great. Solid, like the Corbin I had on my last bike.

This guy added a dense foam to where the previous seat had cushy foam. And on top of that, he covered everything with marine-grade gator skin. The solo seat retained its shape, though it feels about an inch higher. Too sweet. Not a Russell Day Long, but it'll do for now.

Photos to follow.

I think you fellas should spend less time and money on seats and more time and money working out those pansie asses you seem to have.

Bob, don't waste your money on another Triumph seat. Pony up the $500 for a custom job by Rick Mayer or Russell for a few bucks more. IMHO

Tdragger, Send me a pm when you seat comes in I am very interested in finding out more on the custom Job from Rick Mayer. I am in the market for a seat and want to explore all options before I commit

I've toyed around with add-ons like Alaska sheepskin buttpads, and the very expensive AirHawk. The ButtPad did better than the AirHawk which now sits in a box in the corner of a closet. I returned to a custom seat builder, Don Weber, in Albany, OR to build me a one of a kind solo saddle. Don had also built my saddle for my last Beemer. He does such a great job & you're his job of the day as you watch. Both saddles he has built me have been very comfortable. This one for my 2008 R3T was $450 & well worth it. Consider that the original dual saddle from triumph cost $500 & the $450 for a custom saddle becomes a bargain.

I have the stock seat, Triumphs gel seat and a Corbin Young Guns Saddle. I actually prefer the gel seat over the others. I use the Corbin when I want a sporty look and the gel the rest. I'm not impressed with the way the gel looks since it looks like a stock seat, but I do like the way it feels. The corbin is nice for bar hoping and looking fast, but it is hard as a rock. The Corbin lowers the seat height quite a bit and holds you on the bike very well while acting a fool, so I give it points there. The wife hates them all, she tolerates the gel rear seat but says they all hurt her butt. I get about 50 miles out of her before she needs a "butt break".

Dear CSA,
In Aussie speak, an "Ass" is a donkey, while an "Arse" is a backside. Why are you proud of your arse looking like a donkey ? :)

Valid point though.......

Has anyone tried the optional gel seat for the R3T? Just wondering if it is an improvemetn over the stock seat or what. The stock seat seems OK but also seems cheaply made compared to the classic touring seat I had on my old R3.

Not sure if upgrading to the gel seat is really worth it.

Bought my 08 new with the gel seat. I didn't mind it but my wife didn't like it at all. Much narrower with less support than the Harley Ultra passenger seat. I just installed our Russell Day-Long. That's the way to go!

I must admit that both tdragger and RocketDaryl are correct: The Triumph seats are pretty crappy (they look great, though!) and we really do need to quit whining about our candy arses.

I did a 230 miler in the San Diego area yesterday. My ass hurt a bit but the ride was fantastic. Especially that 47-mile ride through the desert on S-2 (from the 78 to Ocotillo). I am concerned about the 2K plus mile rides I’m planning. I completed a 2700 mile ride earlier this year and the Corbin on my other bike was perfect!

Anyhow, I'd love to get a seat like Bob Milke's or a Russell Daylong, but the $$$ keeps me in a locally modified Triumph seat.

Any ideas for a reasonably-priced alternative? I want to concentrate on the ride and not how my butt feels.
