Rocket lll Touring NO CONFIDENCE

The biggest problem with my 06 classic is how freakin long it takes to gas up. nearly every time I stop riding someone has to come over and talk about the bike, tell me "back in the day" stories and stuff like that. Seriously though I bought mine with 11270mi a couple months ago and I am building trust every time it gets me home. You had a reason to buy the rocket when you did and you were right to, What could you replace it with? I'm ruined for other bikes, what else could I pack me, my wife, & a weekends worth of belongings, be comfortable and still rip thru hwy traffic like I'm on a sportbike?

11,000

Broke 11,000 over the weekend on some spectacular Colorado high altitude scenery...... No issues just a smooth ride. Adding the fairing and quick release TOP box kept everything dry and tight. As far as maintenance....my bikes are very well maintained

Another 400 moles yesterday, 150 of it threading traffic on the hwy. Still amazed how fast my bike goes 50 to 100 to 50.

Colorado, the smart play is to join a forum such as this before you make a purchase such as you did. That way you can ask about common issues, concerns or problems and prepare yourself to make a fully informed purchase decision or maybe even avoid buying a POS altogether by finding a much better example of the make and model you desired up front.

Perhaps the prior owner of your R3T beat the crap out of the shifter, leading to its failure, which, btw, is not a common one. More than likely you wrenched on that bolt not really knowing what it was or what amount of torque it could withstand. Perhaps the previous owner passed along his headache with the starter to you without disclosing that source of his angst, making you a victim of that old saying "caveat emptor"?

Might I suggest that you hit the reset button from your initial negative attitude, listen and learn how to set your machine right and then enjoy the ride?

Oh, yeah... welcome to the forum from The Garden State!:D Budweiser - How You Doin' Jersey Guys - YouTube

Its not the fact that Rockets have these problems, its the fact that in 9 years Triumph has not fixed these known problems. I want a new Indian and wonder if I should wait 9 or 10 years for them to get the bugs out of them. My God, How much would it cost to find another oil plug for the final drive?
When they get these bikes to perfection I will be to old to ride. Don't bury your head in the sand like the HD guys.
And check out the new Injin site if you want a nice cruzzer. (own Polaris stocks.)Te He

Interesting about the ignition switch problem. Last yr my 2011 6k miles started to cut out suddenly. After a bit it would start again, then it wouldn't start at all. It wouldn't turn over. Sent it to the Triumph dealer who after four days declared he'd found the fault; the mercury switch that cuts the engine if it falls over.... not really convinced but it is working. Before sending it to the T dealer my shop (that builds $50k 70's racers in their sleep) actually gave up trying to find the fault...

I like the Indians just fine, but I don't foresee me getting rid of the R3T. Certainly not in any hurry, and quite possibly not at all. Whether or not I'll develop issues with it is in the hands of the motoring gods but if it happens, it happens.
