Rocket bore/stroke,vs. HD bore stroke

It's a strange thing that Harley running straight pipes noise. Used to like it when I was making it, but now I find it very annoying.

There are so many things that affect the exhaust sounds. Number of valves, valve arrangement, ignition timing, head design, compression and A/F ratios, length and diameter of the exhaust pipes and design of the mufflers are just a few factors. Me, I don't mind the way Harleys sound; I just wish there was movement associated with it. I will also have to say I don't care for the r3 at idle, but 2-5k cranking through the gears sounds freaking incredible.

Had a lot of bikes on the road today, I particularly noticed that the loudest ones usually were of the HD brand. The first thing came to my mind watching them leave a stoplight or a stop sign was...so much noise...so little power and acceleration. Some of them have a decent sound (mine did as well) but it was almost painful watching them slow move up to speed considering the exhaust note coming out of those pipes.

The sound is chiefly from the single pin crank.
Some Jap motors did this to copy the sound - ie my Kaw VN2000 V2K.
As I 'member the old Honda Ace back in the 80s was the first to do this.

Joe Taverner is Brissy built the nicest FXR based Harley I've ever seen. Grafted HD Street-Rod front and ass end onto stock FXR frame. Had a 131 Jims engine , Baker 6 speed and LSR 2 into 1 exhaust system .. sounded like a NasCar coming down through West End the night I spotted it. Awesome Harley

Since I had the crossover pipe made larger to suit the CES headers the note is way deeper than before (and a bit louder), I like it. Not sure it will please the authorities though.
