Roadster oil use

Hi I have just brought a 2010 roadster it was first registered in September 2011 it had its first oil change at the first service and now its done 4300 klms and the oil is at the add mark so I will top it up, but I don't know when it was last checked, so is there a general consensus on how much they use if any? and do you check every say every 1000 klms and if so how much do they use in that time just riding it normal (not hard)?
I am going to change my oil every 5,000 klms and they recommend shell Advance 4T Ultra 10W-40 and that's what my dealer uses is that any good? or should I stick to the oil I have used in the past on some of my other bikes I have had, I usually use motul 7100 4T 10W40.

This is the oil I use, hey it might be overkill-- But I like overkill - Its better than engine kill.

Same, Every time I check it is the same. I change at 5,000 klms and give the old oil to my brother cos he is on a pension.

I wouldn't have a clue if it has used any oil or not as it was serviced at the same dealer that just serviced my brothers bike and when he got it home the oil was 600mls to low.
I will do it myself so I know its done right

My only suggestion is don't switch to a full Synthetic till you have at least 10,000 km on the clock as you need to let the engine bed in properly before switching then any Good Quality full synthetic 10w40 Motor Cycle oil and you can safely go to 10,000km my bike has 44,000km and uses no oil

Do you really think that is the case nowadays hanso? Most new vehicles, 2 and 4 wheel, come out of the factories with full syn. The quality of the machining is such that there is almost no running-in needed.

To answer the op, mine doesn't use any oil between changes of 5000 miles or one year whichever comes first. I use a Triumph recommended Mobil 1 Racing 4T 15w-50.

I think you will find your Rocket had at best a semi syn from new, recently went to an Oil manufacturer and their chemist said it was still the case unless they are running Nicklesil liners, other wise if you don't bed a new engine in it is more likely to glaze the bores and rings which will result in oil usage
