There is a trap associated with this, going two up into a good lean and hitting a depression on the curve. The shocks compress more than usual and you scrape more than you bargained for. Unless you have explained to the pillion rider that you want them to lean off the bike with you, you would probably just hook into the corner.

Quite true.....BUT.....with proper adjustment of the rear shocks and proper technique, the depression on the bend will cause you to scrape (NOT HOOK, CRASH, LOW-SIDE) because you would not be riding that close to maximum inclination.

I train my pillions to give me room a freedom of movement, allowing me to roll my weight in the seat.

I also train them to become "one with the bike" .......

Yes, they "could" help by leaning...BUT...I loose some control and predictability.

When they are "with the bike" it is more predictable AND you know they are NOT leaning the wrong way....making things harder.

I could not have said it better my self the secret is to train the pillion to be as one and not move with you but to stay as one with the bike and let YOU do the weight shifting required and with proper body langue you will still occasionally scrape

Gentleman,Im not trying to put the fire out or making a pun but has anyone ever thought of just slowing down a little unless you can see through the curve ,or am I just wimping out? i for sure don't mean to but thats what I do till I can see through the turn.

Weighting is only one component of proper/safe riding.

You are correct....throttle must be coordinated with the visual horizon, which is the point where the road disappears over a rise or around a bend.

Before, we were talking about how "weighting" affects cornering clearance at a given speed.

Weighting is one component, throttle control another.

As the visual horizon comes closer...the throttle should be slowing.
If the visual horizon remains constant...so does the throttle.
When the horizon recedes into the distance...roll on the throttle.

Now the above relates to "relative" throttle control...still another component is abosolute speed.

This is related to the posted speed limit ( if you care to respect it) and other factors such as stoping distance, road/weather conditions, rider skill, etc.

Still another component is bike position and line...delayed apex...etc.

These components are all interrelated.

All this goes out the window when Catherines had ' a few ciders ' ... it's like having a poddy calf on the back. God only knows how we make it home some nights :p As for slowing down .......... you're joking right ????

When T breaks out her camera, and starts to video the ride, I think it's like a "poddy calf" too (whatever a poddy calf is? ??)

Thats some fine scenery there Ogre, where is it? BTW there Mr Tomcat I for one am going to for sure keep my rubber down and the shiny side up by slowing down. I also like to go fast thru the twisties, but I like my as you call it arse to stay on the seat, :). To each his own. I usually bypass the corner of crash and road rash and hope to continue to do so.

:D Poddy calf is a half grown cow , clumsy , ungainly and unsteady on it's feet. Much like Catherine after those ' few ciders' . Gary go to Italy , you'd like it there . Way the f#ck up in the mountains where theres no broadband coverage
