2020 R3 GT
Hello, I have had 3 honda VTX 1800's, an 03 and 2 07's. I never followed the owners manual for ALL items listed as it would be a fortune and I didn't think it necessary. Had all fluids changed at recommended mileage/yrs, brake pads changed, coolant as recommended. Only had valves adjusted once at about 25k, never again and sold it at 79k miles and never a problem. Forum members said about the same on the valve adjustment. I for awhile now only change my own oil and pay for someone to do the other stuff.

Is it about the same with this new r3 gt I am getting today? Does the above sound about right?

Are you asking about the 600 mile service? If so I'm also wandering if it is necessary. If they are only checking nuts and bolts to make sure they are tight I really don't think its worth it. Even if they change the oil its way over priced. I'm also about to get a GT in a couple of days.

For the sake of warranty i always go by the book. What if some **** happens and they plug in a laptop and go "sorry, warranty's void because i can see here we haven't done the required service."
EDIT: (Of course) I agree they charge a lot for the simple service but WTH.. I could afford the bike, then i can afford the service :)

In the United States they CANNOT deny you any warranty service just because you do your own work, keep all receipts and a written detail of the work you do , pictures would also help
Follow the guidelines in your MOM(to the brits and aussies we call it MUM) Motorcycle Owners Manuel

That sounds crazy to me.. What if you change the oil to some low rate car crap oil and/or miss something that is supposed to be done/checked at service, and as a result damage the bike? I mean receipts and written detail wouldn't mean jack to me if i ws a dealer, that's ridiculously easy to fake :O
EDIT: My dealer told me that a lot of times there's new soft/firmware available too. That may not mean much to you, but it would annoy me not to have the latest. Sometimes there's even features added via computer/ECU.

Service guy said 600 mile service is almost $400. Next service at 10k is $1200!! Yikes. He said they take off the pedals and greese them etc. I don't know. Valves are gonna be over 700! I think about 20k.

I was stating what the law is in the States and of course, if you do not know your arse from your elbow then yes let the dealer do the work. You will find out real quick that we are usually ahead of Triumph with software upgrades, the first thing to do is buy the correct cable.

My bike sitting at 66,000 miles (2015 Rocket X) has never seen a dealer for service. Figure some time in the future will be doing the 100,000 mile service. Let you all know how that goes.

I hear you Sonny and yes some us like wrenching on our own bikes and some do not and some should not even by law be allowed to hold a wrench:roll:
The dealers put the fear of God(if one existed) into buyers but I bet you one thing ---no dealer in the States would ever put it in writing that the dealer has to perform all required services of your vehicle/bike or it would invalidate the warranty.
