Required Service

I did understand and read your post :) I am able to tell my arse from my elbow, and trust me, I did all maintenance on my 2005 1200 Bandit myself, but i prefer to buy peace of mind with vehicles under warranty, given the laws and rules that apply _here_
Cheers!
The arse from elbow was a general coverage for anyone who should not pick up a spanner not aimed at you specifically sorry if it came over that way, I have a friend who is a top notch mechanic and he does use the dealer during the warranty period just for the piece of mind,

No worries, i didn't take it personal, and in the end "peace of mind" is really what it all boils down to in my case. Especially with local laws and regulations, and vehicles you can plug in to a computer and probably get a graph where you've been and at what revs and speed :)
Once warranty period is up it's a whole new game.

Larry, so you are saying I need the dealer initially because my bike may not run optimally without the "mapping" update?

I can't tell.. All i know is what dealer told me, and what i have read online about the Thruxton. I know for a fact that the pending service for my KIA Niro will have updates to the maps and touchdisplay, whether there's any ECU-updates as well i don't know.
Again, doing the services at authorized dealership during warranty is for peace of mind first and foremost.

It's interesting that most car manufacturers include several oil change/services with the sale of the vehicle. No cost to the owner (other than it was probably included in the list price). When you finally have to start paying for the automotive service, what does it usually cost..... no where near what the motorcycle dealers charge. even with full synthetic oil requested.

This topic does seem to generate some heat.:D We all have bought toys with our own money so there are not rules to follow. Each takes his own risk and makes decisions for his property. It is futile to admonish another to conform to your way of thinking.

Nont hto ther hand the OP was asking a question or seeking advice. If you do that here you will get plenty.

BTW I'm a mindless drone that follows instructions well and does what i am told.:sneaky:

With little experience mechanically, my post was to get varied opinions. What makes the most sense I decide. it's all good. Looks like I'm doing my oil change at this point.

The local Triumph dealer near me includes the first service charge included when you purchase a Triumph. They included it on my 2014 Rocket and they stated with a new 2020 Rocket it would also be included free of charge. Yeah right, it isn't free, California has so many hidden taxes and the dealer set up fee is so high most people realize that they are paying for the first service when they buy the Rocket.

Yeah there is no such thing as "free" you get shafted one way or the other :)
Still a nice touch!

Fyi. At dealer yesterday waiting on bags install asked parts manager " does Triumph let you know when they have software updates"?
He said "only if it affects the performance of the bike, like a 'patch', but then it is a recall, and we would let you know".
Confirmed my thoughts on this.
