Repairs done on your Roadster?

I'm looking at Roadster 2012 and 2014. 2012 with 3300miles and no warranty. 2014 with 7200miles with extra 2 year factory warranty. Both sold at dealers and priced about the same. Like the look of 2012 (no stripe) but no warranty.

2014 would be my choice two years of warranty that's peace of mind well worth it

2011 Roadster here, bought used 18 months ago with 2,000 miles on it:

  • 4k miles: Wheels oxidized / pitted -> had them powder coated, no worries since then
  • 5k miles: Throttle cable snapped -> replaced
  • 5k miles: Cam cover gasket leaking -> replaced
  • 6k miles: High idle problem -> cleaned crankshaft position sensor and calibrated TPS and ISCV
  • 10k miles: New cam cover gasket leaking again -> milled the gasket surface for what seems to be a permanent repair
  • 18k miles: Transmission blew up -> Currently in the shop, needs new shift forks and output gears, ~$2,000 in parts and labor
  • Also some minor stuff like badges and reflectors falling off, dry rotted electrical connector rubber boots etc.
Apart from the transmission failure, none of the repairs have been costly (I've done the work myself). However, the Triumph parts availability is very bad, and even the smallest problem will typically cause a week of downtime waiting for the parts (at least here on the West Coast).

Iv'e had 2 issues with my 2013 R3R that i attribute to no fault of my own , 1st was cam cover gasket let go at around 30000 klm , fixed it myself cost of gasket was around $100 i think. 2nd problem was split head to throttle body rubber boot , on dismantle and inspection seems bad fitment at the factory caused the edge of the boot to roll in on the front throttle body , the clamp eventually slipped the boot and caused it to split , tried to source on in country but none on the shelf and the price was excessive anyway , so i fixed the original boot with 2 pack Arildite and 100mph tape.

How difficult was it to replace the cam cover gasket? Mine went at 27000 km, I took it in for the 32000km service, if they gotta open her up might as well kill two birds with one stone.

You gotta raise the tank....not too difficult, but if you going there you might as hit what you can...new spark plugs....general clean up. Hey, you got the cover off, check your valve clearance. May not have the miles for it, but you are in there so....

Mine has been solid at 4500 miles and purchased new. Nothing other than an oil change. It goes, stops, and looks like nothing else. If reliability is what you crave, get a Honda. It will be as reliable as your refrigerator, and you will love it just as much.
