Nope! No steel wool, no polish of any kind!.... if you want to keep the real glisten in your chrome. NO ABRASIVES of ANY KIND! Nothing that cuts or abrades! Your glistening chrome is so very fragile.
Spray on Easy Off Oven Cleaner (cold) after having manually removed the gross burnt on plastic with your fingernails or a plastic/wood spatula on COLD pipes! A pre-1975 penny also works well without scratching the chrome. Never use anything that is harder than chrome!
Leave the Easy Off on at least 24 hours and wipe off. You may have to do it two or three times!
Relax and do what I say if you want to keep the chrome PERFECT!
If there is any residue, then use Blue Job Chrome Cleaner which is the ONLY chrome cleaner that will never scratch or "buff" your chrome!...The ONLY ONE!
50 years riding and obsessively cleaning. Tried it all! Blue Job is the best kept secret with chrome. Never a scratch or haze...none.
Take it or don't but hard fought experience is here There are only three things I will use on perfect chrome now:
Windex, Easy Off Oven Cleaner and Blue Job. Anything else I've used has affected the chrome negatively.Even the nano technology micro-abrasive cleaners.
All of the "Chrome Polishes" will leave a haze on your brilliant chrome in the sunlight or under fluorescent light. Try them on an unneeded chrome part and put them under the sun or fluorescent and you will see.
I am a GURU with a few things only, but chrome is one of them. I have screwed up so very many times with it and, finally, understand!
If your chrome is already scratched or buffed...do whatever, but perfect chrome is a thing of beauty and needs this attention.
