Removing melted plastic from exhaust pipe

The pre 1975 US penny does the job. Just happened to have one lying around and after trying all sorts of polishes and cleaners it was the only thing that was able to remove melted boot rubber without leaving any marks behind. Took a few minutes of scraping, fantastic. If anyone in Oz wants to borrow the penny let me know.

I have used just a plain piece of hard wood with sharp corners similar to a paint stirrer...just scrape the plastic with the edge of the wood(cold pipes)and finish the small debri with chrome polish.

This is exactly what I do.

Make sure the wood is clean, as any sand on it will leave scratches.

I've used it to remove both shopping bag plastic, and rubber from the sole of my wife's boot.

It's like nothing was ever there!

DO NOT USE OVEN CLEANER ON CERAMIC COATING.
I blame this thread for my venture down that road.:mad::mad::mad:
@TO rocket , don't think your contribution hasn't gone unnoticed.....

Well guys, this little product really works well as I have used it on numerous occasions. If you have a lot of stuff stuck on your pipe you may try some of the things your fellow rocketeers have offered here, but I have found any scraping with "anything" is going to scratch your chrome. I especially would not use steel wool. If you look close enough and in the correct light, you will see the damage you have done that you can't undo.

The product is call "Road Rub" and if you gently rub it over the piece of crap you are trying to remove, you will see it disappear with virtually no damage to you chrome. It is a dry rub stick in what appears to be a small sized deodorant stick dispenser. It's crazy stuff, but it does work and it's the best thing I've found. I've even include a link to a little gif for your viewing pleasure. Good luck!

I've used #0000 steel wool with jewelers polish with good results. I've used E-Z off in the yellow can and S-100 they both have striped the chrome off the spokes on my RK :(

Nope! No steel wool, no polish of any kind!.... if you want to keep the real glisten in your chrome. NO ABRASIVES of ANY KIND! Nothing that cuts or abrades! Your glistening chrome is so very fragile.
Spray on Easy Off Oven Cleaner (cold) after having manually removed the gross burnt on plastic with your fingernails or a plastic/wood spatula on COLD pipes! A pre-1975 penny also works well without scratching the chrome. Never use anything that is harder than chrome!
Leave the Easy Off on at least 24 hours and wipe off. You may have to do it two or three times!
Relax and do what I say if you want to keep the chrome PERFECT!
If there is any residue, then use Blue Job Chrome Cleaner which is the ONLY chrome cleaner that will never scratch or "buff" your chrome!...The ONLY ONE!
50 years riding and obsessively cleaning. Tried it all! Blue Job is the best kept secret with chrome. Never a scratch or haze...none.
Take it or don't but hard fought experience is here There are only three things I will use on perfect chrome now:
Windex, Easy Off Oven Cleaner and Blue Job
. Anything else I've used has affected the chrome negatively.Even the nano technology micro-abrasive cleaners.
All of the "Chrome Polishes" will leave a haze on your brilliant chrome in the sunlight or under fluorescent light. Try them on an unneeded chrome part and put them under the sun or fluorescent and you will see.
I am a GURU with a few things only, but chrome is one of them. I have screwed up so very many times with it and, finally, understand!
If your chrome is already scratched or buffed...do whatever, but perfect chrome is a thing of beauty and needs this attention.
