Agreed! That sucker was really fast. It would generally get you into the corner first, but because it handled so badly the first corner was always a sphincter puckerer.
The Bultaco 360 Pursang I also raced was not quite as fast but handled much better even though not as exciting as the TM 400!
 
The guys behind us had a combined bike and people age of 44 and ours was 112 , so they were a bit annoyed that the GSXR couldn't pass the Speedy. .. Those TM's were tough for sure,lots of hard old dirt bikes then, I had an RT360 for a while, bit$h to start as well.
 
Some old logging pics from Woodenbong. Dad drove the D7 that his brother Reg is leaning on and Reg drove the other one with no blade. They worked both machines together in the bush. This would've been the early 60's
