Redesigned RamAir filter available for ordering

Theres another thread on here called Ramair cracked I think. read it from start to finish and you'll see that they have been replacing them for those that go about it calmly. with a bit of luck you'll get the new improved model.
I am waiting for ramairs reply. I like the filter. I definetely like the power. I used a wayne tripp tune. Hopefully, i will be ready for a ride by midmonth. This little setback kept me from the rockets across america rally. I was looking foreward to meeting hanso.

I just completed the install of the Ramair I ordered 2 weeks ago. Very straight forward install, I removed all of the plenum and the rubber elbow into the old air box. The base does need careful attention when seating to ensure it is firmly down in place, it can be a bit cockeyed. I did the 12 min tune as recommended and then did a test ride. NO issues, pulls strong with no hesitation or unwanted noises. The sound from under the Bear Claw is not bad, nice and deep. For me, this is very nice and initially seems worth the effort.

Please explain the 12 min tune.
the 12 min tune resets the adaptives on the ECU , you do it by staring from dead cold with out touching the throttle letting engine idle till fan cuts in then let engine idle for 12 min after fan cuts in and your done ,don't touch the throttle during the whole process

Please explain the 12 min tune.

It's a procedure to let the ECU learn the basics of the engine at idle; the ECU is adaptive and learns/adjusts as the engine changes (as it ages, etc). A 12 (or 15) minute tune is just connecting something like TuneECU to the bike and choosing to reset adaptations, ie telling the ECU to forget what it thinks it knows.

Then, you turn the bike on and start it by touching nothing but the starter button and then letting it idle for 12-15 minutes while it adapts.

It's the basic minimum to get the bike to work appropriately in idle; the ECU will continue to learn as you ride at other revs. Not so much a tune as giving the ECU a fresh baseline to work from.

Larger changes (like a new air filter and exhaust) still strictly speaking requires a dyno run to tune the fuel/air mixture manually.

Thanks fellas, so once I recieve and install my RamAir Filter, let the bike idle... Touching nothing... Understood.. For 12 to 15 min, after the fan cuts in.
Croft, you mentioned using tune ecu, do I need to do that or just start the bike from cold like Pete mentioned,

Thanks again

Kevin, before you do the installation, read ALL of the pages of the manual they send. I tend to skim and do and did not read the last couple of pages until I was all done. The last pages are for removal of the OEM plenum and explain a C clamp and nut that are in the kit. Those parts mount a sensor that is unbolted during the removal process. I had zip tied it and put the tank back together when I figured that out. I left it as I had completed it. It does help to have the round end Allen wrenches, in mm, with extensions. There are some tight screw locations you need to get at. Telescopic magnets are also helpful. Just take your time, enjoy a beer while you ponder and it comes out nicely. The extra induction noise has not been a problem for me, I like it. You do hear it upon acceleration. I will let Croft respond as to the Tune Program, I will stick with the 12 min for now.

I don't think you have to reset adaptations, as the ECU will learn anyway constantly. I assume doing it just makes it unlearn the bad stuff faster or something.

That said, having a proper cable and TuneECU handy can be useful anyway for a Rocket pilot - you can get diagnostic data out of the bike if need be, for instance.

And I for one want the induction noise. The bike is a little bit too civilized-seeming for such a beast, needs a few rougher edges. ;)

The 600 pound gorilla is still in the room! Will Ramair finally quit hiding the test results and show us proof, if they have it, that this filter increases performance?

Don't believe Ramair did any tests. They just tried to build a filter for 2 Rocket 3 owners that asked them if they could do it. If you don't believe that letting an engine breath better will improve performance then figures aren't going to help.
