I am curious as to why the bearing failed. It could bave been a bad bearing. Butfromwhat I can see it also could be the bearing wasinstalled improperly. It mighthave been installed cattywhompis (cocked at a slight angle) this could have helped marred up the bore and forced a burr down and under the bearing not allowing it to seat and run concentric, which would put undue pressure on the bearing races. Just like pressing one in a under sized bore. This would cause premature wear on the bearing and strain from the axial run out.

Just thinking out loud

if u tighten the axle nut first then tighten the final drive that would put a lot of pressure on the bearings and make them go bad.

I must take issue here. The proper sequence is, install final drive, leave the four bolts finger tight. Install wheel and axle, torque axle nut. Then torque the final drive bolts. The next time you have your final drive off, you'll notice it has clearance in the bolt holes I.E. you can rock it back and forth some. By tightening the axle first it puts the final drive in perfect alignment with the axle, so it's not putting a bind on the rear wheel bearings.

Allballs are really good bearings. They make them for the Rocket and are American made. Been running them in the Harley for a bit and will run them in the Rocket. :sneaky::sneaky::sneaky::sneaky::sneaky:

Do you wear their T-Shirt?
Great name!

i do not know where u r getting your info from but my book says when u install the bevel box u slip it on to the spline and put the wheel spindle through the swinging arm to ensure it will realign with the swing arm when the wheel is installed. tighten the bevel nuts in in two stages 20nm then 64nm . then refit the rear wheel as described on page 16.10
i not only agree with the book the only thing that makes sense is to torque the axle nut last. if steve is doing it your way no wonder he is having trouble.
if u have a book that is wrong we need to know about it.

Rocket Scientist way makes sense to me. That's how I would do it and you aren't hurting anything.

What your describing would accomplish the same thing except that torqing the axle first would give even more precise alignment. Just my 1/2 cents worth.

well the books are probably wrong:banghead: and it is a waste of time to look at the book. i don't mine u doing it that way but u should not tell others to do it wrong.

LOL. Relax bro. There's more than one way to skin a cat. I wouldn't torque the axle down until everything else is snug but that's just me. Open that triumph book up and roll. love and kisses. :inlove
