ALERT...to all R3 owners and others we have an answer to the spacer problem and it is ugly.

do not take for granted that the part you get from a dealer even after checking your VIN number year etc etc is the correct one even if the plastic pouch holding the part # matches .

today the dealer picked up my R3 2006 and I followed their trailer right inside the working area they put her up on the table , after an hour between the parts manager the head mechanic and some other triumph employees lots of tools and some cursing '

turns out they could not fit the brake mount to the wheel just like I said to them and the reason being
the part is wrong the plastic pouch it came in was right according to triumph microfiche but somebody in ENGLAND mixed abs and non abs bike in the main parts library used by every dealer in the world. since it appears my 2006 was an ABS bike on triumph parts computer. I am vindicated after all and the proper part (a smaller spacer) will be forthcoming and installed a no cost to me

end of the saga so check and double check when you get parts and if it does not fit you know what to do now.

PS found a package on my front door ...BRACKETS...finally thanks to mittzy and R3tex for their efforts.

Great News for You, this is not the first time (as mentioned in my earlier post) nor will it be the last I am sure they stuff up

When you place the rear wheel back on its splines it should sit there quite happily. If it doesn't then it means that it isn't on correctly. It is easier to put on if the bike is in first gear as you can wiggle the wheel as it slides in. Once it is on the splines then you feed the axle bolt in from the LHS. You will have to line the spacer and the brakes up and jiggle the wheel a bit as you then feed the axle through those bits and eventually through the swingarm. It is tight, but it will fit.

When you put the bolt that stops the brake callipers from flying around the axle back in, MAKE SURE THAT IT GOES THROUGH THE HOLE THAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO GO THROUGH ON THE SWING ARM!!! A couple of bikes at a recent get together had them wrong - and the work was done by a dealer!!!

While the wheel is off, did you remove the final drive unit (diff) and grease the splines? That should be done on every tyre change, and more often if you run on the Dark Side.

Waiting on my new Bridgestone Battlax to arrive and remembered this post. Thanks idk67! Fourth tire in 24k and I've never checked the splines, but everything looked like new. Greased her back up and put her back together.....NOW, UPS, where's my tire?!

can you inform the unwashed of the size of that tire???

Youbetcha! It is a 200/60 R16. I put about 8k on an Excedra Max and thought I would give this one a try. My Touring originally came with a 180 but the 200 fits and puts a little more meat on the ground. Plus it looks good.
