Ramair filter arrived...

Fitted mine on Saturday & removed secondary baffles. Test ride gave good impressions, but today (Sunday) it was obvious that I have a huge increase in acceleration, with power to pull from 40mph in 5th gear to 70mph in under 2 seconds. The raw acceleration when overtaking is awesome & the sound is absolutely fantastic, at least to me the rider. The bike is running really well, my only concern is the AFR especially if its running lean,is there a big advantage to running a "Power Commander" or can a new MAP be enough to ensure a good ratio? I'm not well up on all this technology.

A new bespoke map IS ALWAYS THE BEST WAY FORWARD even if you're running 100% bog standard.
But you need a good Dyno-God. Find somewhere that can use TuneECU though. Most will want to sell you a Power Commander.
As I don't have one close I went PC5 with the AT module and the difference is quite remarkable.

If you're running Standard pipes - especially the headers which are a bottleneck, then you haven't seen the half of it. On open pipes above 4000rpm - sweet Jesus.

Also (and this is just me) I'd not hit it HARD in 5th below 2250(ish) rpms. Let the motor spin a bit before you whack it. If you can hear it vr-vr-vr-vruuuuuum! - it's not happy. Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah is the sound to go for.

I'd have left the secondaries in and forced to 100% - which apparently flows air BETTER. I've only recently learned this.

This said at those low rpms (under 2000) I find closing the secondaries a bit improves torque and acceleration under normal road use. Makes it smoother too.

...............If you're running Standard pipes................

Chris, John had a dyno tune done with TORS, cat box and standard intake prior to fitting the Ramiar and removing secondary's etc. I think it might now be running a bit lean, what would you say?

Maybe - but if so MARGINAL.Frankly with the standard collector and cat box on - It cant breath out all that well so probably will hit that bottleneck before intake becomes a serious issue. tbh I think it will depend a bit how rich the Dyno-God set it up too. I had a tune in for a while that was near jetting neat fuel of of the zorsts. Terrible.

tbh - I'm always a bit surprised how much leaner mine runs with the PC5-AT sampling and adjusting. Makes me think that either Triumph have been a wee bit more generous than one might think or I have very liberal injectors.

But I'd wait until we see what Wayne comes up with this week.

Battersea, You should map the bike, any filter which removes the stock system is so far different it is not funny. I have tested this set up and out of courtesy am awaiting an email back from Dan at Ramair before posting results. As to the PCV pulling out fuel with the AT, it will pull out all your accelaration fuel, when you give it the berries. Thats why your map makes numbers on the A Tune. Results are good for the Ramair on a stock engine, good option for those who wish to retain the bearclaw on their bike. There is nothing wrong with a PC if set up well. Better to have a well set up PC than some dodgy tune from some one half way round the world, using different fuel, air filters etc etc.

I recommend the Dobeck Performance AFR Plus. It does not require a dyno tune or tuner. It controls the AFR and reports it on the AFR gauge. You set the AFR for 3 zones and you control the switch point of those zones. All AFR settings are where you want them, You can change them anytime you want. Same with the zone Switch points. I love my AFR Plus. BTW: I gained about 20 HP and 10 TQ. Average MPG went up 2 MPG too.

Thanks for the warning Nev, I suspected that would be the case and much appreciate your informed advise.

That is all I need to know to be honest, I'm perfectly happy with it as it is - standard everything other than Ramair filter.

My problem now is how to get the bike to the nearest tuners who use TuneECU - 250 miles away. If as you confirm the fuelling is way off, its possible, even likely, to do some damage.................. bollocks - decisions decisions. :(

Gentlemen, listen to Mr. Lush.

Good to know. One Dyno-God has spoken. One awaits other Dyno-God thoughts.

I am listening to all experiences and advice from any quarter, Ramair system fitted, bike running really well & having it MAPed & PCV fitted on Friday with Auto Tune. I will post on any difference I notice
